A Rap Sheet: The Year 2013 – To Current…
“On the corner of 10th and Mifflin. One guy was pissed because he couldn’t get his car out of its’ parking space. Another patron’s car was double-parked, blocking him in. Mostly all of the South Philly residents were accustomed to this way of life. The average South Philadelphian didn’t blink an eye at the thought of not doing so. From Delaware Avenue to 25th Street and Snyder Avenue to Oregon Avenue was considered the zone for double parked cars.
If you were a member of the family’s business, you did whatever you wanted anyway. Made members were the elite in those particular neighborhoods. One could compare such a society to that of mob figures in New York. The South Philly Mobs were a force to be reckoned with.
When the old ‘Mustache Pete’s’ like ‘Angie-B’, ran things, there wasn’t a great deal of blood on the streets. There was only money to be made.

Detective Willis Samuel of the Philadelphia Police Department recalled something…someone…somewhere, not long ago. There was a conversation that he’d overheard regarding justice.

“Ha! Justice in this place! Someone was making a joke.”

There were six murders of late. All of them occurred on the ‘Philly’ side of the bridge. Camden recorded fifteen as of late. Four of the victims were women. The other two, a homo-sexual and a hetero-sexual. Each of the Philly murders happened in all four corners of the city, on the same night.

Willis crawled into bed with his wife, Elizabeth. He’d been working all day and late into the night, racking up a grand total of 18 straight hours. It was a hot and sweltering night in “Mount Airy.” Summertime in Philly can be a deadly killer. The gripping effect of humidity and heat has claimed the lives of several elderly and physically challenged citizens. Many of the city’s homeless have been approached and sometimes gathered up in groups by authorities suggesting shelter of a mandatory nature.

Willis didn’t want to be saddled with the first victim of the case, let alone all six. His new partner and subordinate made a clumsy comment.

“Ya know boss, don’t cha’ think these deaths have something in common?”
Willis replied, “Yeah, they’re all dead…and don’t call me boss!”

Chasey (pronounced ‘Chazzy’) Deltaveino was an old Jr. high school chum when we both attended ‘Vare Middle School’ in South Philly. Chasey Del, as he was known, was a made members’ son. He knew anything and everything, especially if and when it concerned South Philadelphia and South Jersey goings-on known as business. Last week, a bar fight jumped off on the corner of 10th and Mifflin. One guy was pissed because he couldn’t get his car out of its’ parking space. Another patron’s car was double-parked, blocking him in. Mostly all of the South Philly residents were accustomed to this way of life. The average South Philadelphian didn’t blink an eye at the thought of not doing so. The two guys were squaring off outside after a pushing and shoving match occurred inside. Apparently, the “made-man” didn’t move fast enough for the guy who wanted to get his car out. The angry man didn’t know the guy who shoved him back was a made-man. He shoved harder and won out on the shoving match. The made-man punched him in the mouth with a solid blow from a straight right-cross. The angry man fell backwards into the bar, landing on a couple of patrons who allowed him to drop to the floor. More angry than embarrassed, he pulled himself to his feet and took a defensive posture. Realizing he was in more of a situation than originally ascertained, he quickly began to think of a way out of the situation.

“Yo man, all I wanted you to do was to move your fuckin car so that I could get out!”
The mobster replied, “Fuck You! I’ll move it when I’m ready…and I’m not quite ready, so take your best shot pal!”

The foolish man obeyed the suggestion and swung hard with his right fist. He attempted to hit the left side of the made-man’s face. He missed when the mobster took a quick lean back and recoiled with a barrage of deadly blows.
He hit the angry man squarely on the right side of his jaw. He then punched the man right on the point of his chin with a straight right, sending him out through the glass doors, into the street. Returning to his feet, the injured and dazed fellow hit the outside wall of the bar wall with a loud thud and fell down face first onto the concrete sidewalk from the blow of another pulverizing punch. Picking himself up from the ground proved to be a daunting task. His face and nose were bloodied from the punch and fall. In the attempt to get up, the man was struck again. The mobster kicked him viciously in the stomach. The man groaned in agony. The mobster was geared up to stomp on the man’s groin area when the injured man rolled over into a supine position.
Retaining his defensive gesture, the man rolled over again into a fetal posture. Recovering quickly, the man jumped to his feet. He was preparing to attack the made-man again. Reaching into his right trouser pocket, he produced something shiny. It flashed a brilliant silver-blue reflection from the bar-room glow and lights from the streetlamps. It clicked and snapped while it swung like a chained-stem “yo-yo” with its flashing recoil. The man mastered the tool like a pro. It was a switchblade knife with a nearly invisible edge equaling a straight razor. The mobster took a step back as his adversary prepared for the attack. The mobster then did something to cause the man with the blade to freeze dead in his tracks.
The mobster pointed a brand new blue-steel Smith and Wesson 9mm at his face, cocking the hammer with the slide bar on top.

“Listen boy, you got your ass kicked here tonight. So let’s call it a night and go our merry way…I’ll move my car so you can go.”
The knife wielding man cringed and swallowed with embarrassment and fear. He knew he was a dead man. But foolish is as foolish does. When the made-man turned to re-enter the bar, the man lunged forward. The mobster twisted around to his left and with deadly accuracy, pointed the gun from under his left arm and shooting with the right. He shot the knife-wielder in the left knee.
He screamed in agony as the red hot bullet tore through the joint, ripping it to shreds. The blood squirted everywhere. It hit the gawkers standing nearby and sprayed gore all over the wall of the bar and sidewalk. The knife wielder dropped his knife, gripping his leg in utter agony; fell back down to the ground.

The made-man walked over to him, placing his right foot on the man’s neck and pointed the glock at his face and smiled down at him.

“Well son, the first rule of confrontation is to never bring a knife to a gunfight… So long pal, hope I don’t see ya in hell!”
Just as he was preparing to pull the trigger, a car pulled up with blinding lights and screeching wheels.

“Damn little Ricky, I see you’re still doing that gangster shit.”

“Yo Chasey…what’s happnin Bro! Long time no see, Homes!”

The foolish and frightened man’s life was spared. “Little Ricky” waved the guys; who made up his immediate crew; off. This gesture of mercy allowed the beaten irreverent loser the opportunity to live and see another day. Ricky’s gesticulation was completely understood by his men and the surceased and bloodied individual who was hurried by several tacit bystanders to his car. No one called for an ambulance because no one wanted to answer any questions the police would obviously have. They would not risk an interrogation by the leader of the group responsible for the foolish man’s injuries. He was on his own.

Sirens sounded in the distance. The sound grew closer to the bar’s location. Apparently, some one did call for medical assistance to the injured individual.

“Yo Rick, I need to talk to you for a mo.”
Chasey’s car pulled around behind the back of the building which housed the tavern. He didn’t bother to look and see where the driver parked the car. He wouldn’t be concerned because he wouldn’t have to move any further than the curb when his ride was needed.

Little Ricky’s boys automatically jumped to attention whenever Chasey showed up. They knew that penalty for disrespect. Several of them used to belong to him before he became the head “Knock-Around-Guy.” A few of them who were designated leaders, were with him back in the day when he was just starting his ascent to the top. Now that he is the current known “Capo di tutti capi,” Chasey’s ass was frequently kissed most everywhere he went. Little Ricky also bowed and scraped upon the “boss of bosses” arrival on any given scene at any given time.

“I’ve got this lil problem… One of our boys in blue took a trip to “never-never-land” a bit too soon. He owed us a great deal of dough. About ‘800 large.’ He departed this planet with a debt to heavy to forget or forgive.
Although he croaked on the job…he paid the ultimate price without our permission. He croaked at the behest of his superior…a Black.

Now, the thing that compounds my dilemma is that I know this Black Commander – I went to school with him – we were good friends, buddies.

Now I don’t, I’m not quite sure how to handle this situation. Somebody has to pay me my money.

“When There’s No More Room In Hell”

The Dead Shall Walk The Earth!
The pedestrians and equestrians reveled in the park’s courses of pathways and trails throughout the region. Another favored entranceway into the grotto like valley was Mount Airy’s Cherokee Lane from Allens Lane near the Lincoln Drive. The wondrous beauty and mystery of Philly’s Fairmount Park was simply adored by all and who resided and those who visited. But just as much as it is alluring it was also a most deadly place as well.

My name is Salestian Michaels. I’m currently employed by the ‘Philadelphia Sunny Globe Newspaper Organization and International News Network.’ I was born and raised in South Philly, the heart and soul of ‘Mafiosi Life.’ Angel Brondidi and Nick the Needle ran it all when they weren’t at odds with one another.

I was there when Captain Willis Samuel and National Forestry Service Ranger Commander Gerald Glenn confronted and eradicated the monster beast in the park. I didn’t like Glenn very much, although I admired him. He was damn good at what he did. It was his woman that I liked…loved and wanted.

Yeah, she was something else. Genailia put the whammy on me at the zoo. She definitely whipped my ass in that booth. But man, just to get the opportunity to be near her, to feel her voluptuously warm and supple body and that magnificent ass close to mine…was worth it. I guess I really shouldn’t have grinded on her ass though. I thought she might like it. I was wrong. I’m still searching for a way to apologize. They’re somewhere up in the Yukon or Alaska nowadays. I do hope that she gets back this way.

I wasn’t happy with the hospital bills either.

The ‘Dungeon Queen’ case hasn’t come to trial yet. And “the Fairmount Park Rapist” case was never solved – it’s still wide open, soon to become a cold case.

There’s been some talk around town and throughout the buildings downtown of something else. Rather than the beast, although that story will remain on many lips for a long, long, time; another frightful occurrence screams for resolve. Apparently, ‘The Wissahickon Kelpius Society’ is being looked at. There appears to be some sort of mystery surrounding missing kids and some dark robed monks…of course I had to twist a few wrists and ring a couple of ears in order to get the case. Albeit, my curiosity abounds with the want of knowledge about these characters and the missing kids, I wanted to be paid for the research and story as well.

Paying close attention to the ‘scuttle-butt,’ gossip, and rumors about, I remember hearing something about an occultist and his group back in history class. It was something about George Washington and a mystic back in the 16th or 17th century. It was during, I think, the French-American and British war of the colonies. The old mansions in Germantown reflect upon the general’s visit along with the French leader, Lafayette.

The mansions along ‘The Great Road’ held a complete and authenticated history of events from back then.
What I do know up to this point is what has been said, stored, and recorded:

~ “The Battle of Germantown” occurred at the Cliveden Manor. “It was also the country home of Pa. Chief Justice Benjamin Chew. On October 4, 1777, a British regiment occupied Cliveden and defended it from full assaults by the Colonials. Over 70 soldiers died on these grounds. Although it was an American defeat, Washington’s bold strategy helped to win French aid for the cause of independence.” – “The First Protest Against Slavery was here in 1688, at the home of Tunes Kunders, an eloquent protest was written by a group of German Quakers. Signed by Pastorius and three others, it preceded by 92 years Pennsylvania’s passage of the nation’s first state abolition law.” ~

What began as a summer retreat, to a colonial landmark, became the site of a viciously nasty war, “The Battle of Germantown. Many have wondered if this was an accident in history.
Cliveden Manor is a story of a colonial family, the servants, and its slaves.
Before William Penn and the Mayflower, the Native Americans lived on the land now known as the United States of America. Here in the northwest, the Philadelphia-Germantown area is where the Quakers settled to farm and establish businesses. They were mostly of German descent, hence the name Germantown.

This area was also a haven for runaway slaves. “The Underground Railroad” ran through this region of the country as well. There existed a number of “Safe-Houses” for escaped African-American Slaves (not known then as African Americans – P.O.W.’s) such as, The Mennonite Meeting House and the Johnson House. The route to freedom for Black people often led to Canada, although a number of African descendants decided to settle in Germantown where they felt safe from persecution.

On day two of the group’s hunt, the skies cleared at 8:30 a.m. The group of rangers set out to follow a creek bed upstream looking for tracks…some sign.

“Damn Man…he’s a big mutha, ain’t he?” That was all that Willis was able to squawk.

“We’ve gotta bag his ass.”

“Suddenly, out of nowhere it lunged and snapped its jaws…another man was gone!”

“We were sitting there concentrating when, a few seconds later, he pops up right in front of us, about 10 yards away and he was coming toward us,” A tracker said. “I don’t know if the wind was in our favor or what. We were dressed in camouflage. It might not have seen us.”

“I put the scope on him. I wanted to hit him in the chest, but all I could see was nothing but head!”

Melanism in the “Jaguar” (Panthera onca) is conferred by a dominant allele, and in the “Leopard” (Panthera pardus) by a recessive allele. Close examination of the color of these “Black Cats” will show that the typical markings are still present, but are hidden by the excess “Black Pigment Melanin,” giving an effect similar to that of “Printed Silk.”

It is thought that melanism may confer a selective advantage; studies also suggest that melanism might be linked to beneficial mutations in the immune system. A “Black Panther” is the melanistic color variant of any big cat species. Black Panthers in “Asia” and “Africa” are Leopards (Panthera pardus), and those in the Americas are “Black Jaguars.”

“It’s field trip day at Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School in North Philadelphia and the hallways are packed with 273 kids getting ready to board buses.

But the students are not going to the museum or the zoo. They’re going to the movies to see Marvel’s new superhero film, “Black Panther.”

Dressed in a red, gold, and brown “Dashiki(s),” seventh grade reading and writing teacher, ‘Herman Douglas’ leads a sea of students to the bus. He says for the students at ‘Bethune’ where 80 percent of the student body is Black, “Black Panther” isn’t just another superhero movie. It’s a chance to see a superhero and an all-black cast who look like them.

“It represents African-Americans and Africans from the Diaspora coming together to fight evil, to fight oppression, ‘Douglas’ said. To get children to actually see that there’s a possibility that we can solve our own problems in our own community is extremely powerful.”

The school’s principal, ‘Jamina Clay-Dingle’ set up a GoFundMe page in February online to raise money to help pay for her students to see the film. Her goal was to raise $1,125.

“We raised close to $4,000 so that was just powerful in itself,” ‘Douglas’ says. “And we had donors from all over the world.”

The group arrives at “Philadelphia Mills” and the students are ushered into their very own theater. The movie starts and the kids are swept away to “Wakanda,” the fictional “African Country” where “Black Panther” is set. It’s the most technologically-advanced country in the world, and it hasn’t been touched by colonialism.

‘Sheena C. Howard,’ an associate professor at Rider University, said for kids like these students, seeing a place like Wakanda on screen is powerful especially in a political climate fraught with racial tensions.

“In those two hours you are in the movie theater — especially as a ‘Black’ person and even as anyone else that has any sense of social justice — [you] can feel like right now in these two hours, we are winning,” ‘Howard’ said. “It kind of gives you something to hope for and it gives you a sense that things can be better.”

The students and staff at Bethune laugh, cheer, and scream their way through “Black Panther.” And once the movie is over, they snap selfies with each other and can’t stop talking — and yet, students like seventh grader ‘Daiyannah Brown’ say they can’t find the words to describe what the experience meant to them.

‘Brown’ says she finally saw herself on screen in characters like “Shuri,” “Nakia,” and “Okoye.”

“Can you believe it? Wow! To have “African-American Women” doing their own thing in the movie, it was amazing,” ‘Brown’ said. “It was phenomenal! I loved it! I’m lost for words!” 

Seventh grader ‘Edward Rosario’ says the movie — starting with the poster he saw before the film — has changed his view of “Africa.”

Wakanda: 

Wakanda is a small nation located in equatorial Africa, it is surrounded by the nations of Narobia, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia, and was named for its native inhabitants, the Wakandans. Wakanda is a nation of vast contrasts. While tribal in government and relatively primitive in certain aspects of its culture, Wakanda possesses technology often more sophisticated than anywhere else on Earth.

Until relatively recently, the Wakandans lived as their ancestors did, primarily a hunter-gatherer society with some cultivation of crops. Central to the Wakandan’s myth and ritual was a small mountain of ore which according to legends fell from the sky. This meteoric ore was later found to be Vibranium, an extraterrestrial metal capable of absorbing all sonic vibrations. For generations, the Wakandans worshiped at the site of the mound and founded the Cult of the Panther, which paid homage to their native predator, the black panther, which guarded the sacred mountain. It all changed when a British hunting expedition happened to take note of the unusual mound of ore. The renegade scientist Ulysses Klaw attempted to forcibly seize the valuable Vibranium, but he was opposed by T’Chaka, the chieftain of the Wakandas as well as the head of “The Black Panther Cult. T’Chaka was slain by Klaw’s mercenaries, but it was his son, T’Challa, who managed to drive the foreign invaders away. Realizing the vast wealth of the Vibranium deposit, the Wakandas quickly became one of the wealthiest countries in the world for merely small quantities of Vibranium.

The Wakandas took care to let no outsider know the exact location of the deposit for fear of theft. T’Challa, became educated in the universities abroad, then returned to Wakanda to assume leadership of the tribe. His newfound business and scientific expertise enabled the Wakandans to further parlay the Vibranium deposit into even greater wealth.

All mankind is descended from the three sons of Noah: Shem, Ham and Japheth. The descendants of Japheth, the youngest son, settled in Anatolia, modern Turkey, and from there moved into the Caucasus Mountains of Western Russia and from there settled Europe and Russia. Maroons:
When runaway Blacks and Amerindians banded together and subsisted independently they were called Maroons. On the Caribbean islands, they formed bands and on some islands, armed camps. Maroon communities faced great odds to survive from colonists, obtain food for subsistence living, and to reproduce and increase their numbers. As the planters took over more land for crops, the Maroons began to lose ground on the small islands. “When a mulatto general from Napoleon’s army retired to the small northeastern town of Villers-Cotterets, France, little did the natives know that their town was now destined to become the birthplace of the great Alexandre Dumas. On July 24, 1802 the forty-four year old General learned that he had fathered a son. A statue in the town now commemorates one of the most prolific and loved writers of the 19th century. Alexandre Dumas was to excel at both the dramatic genre and the romantic novel. His works involve adventuresome plots, which depict the heroic triumph of human strength and endurance.

Dumas’ plots were inspired by his father’s wild adventures. Beginning early in life Dumas learned of the wartime triumphs and hardships the General had experienced. Unfortunately for the young boy, these proved insuperable for his father’s aging body. The General had suffered from poisoning and imprisonment. Dumas’ father thus died only four years after his son’s birth. Dumas then led an isolated childhood. His protective mother could not part with her boy though his education was at stake. Thus, Alexandre did not attend college. Only once that his mother’s monetary funds had been exhausted did she concede to the prospect of his voyage to the big city, Paris.

Once in Paris, Dumas tried to kindle relations with his father’s old friends. This however proved to be anything but fruitful. Luckily, General Foy, who represented Dumas’ town district in the Chamber of Deputies, was also friendly with the Duc D’Orleans. As a result of this connection Dumas obtained a clerkship with the Duc. Dumas possessed the fine penmanship necessary for the post. Dumas, however, already had higher goals in mind. He is reported to have commented to Foy, “General, I am going to live by my handwriting, but I promise you that I shall someday live by my pen.” 

It did not take long for the spirited Dumas to start working towards this dream. Shortly thereafter, he was inspired to write a drama, Henri III, et sa Cour. This was performed in February 1829.

Next, Dumas became temporarily distracted with political ambitions. He became a captain in the artillery of the National Guard. These duties did not hinder his literary output for long, however. Five Dumas dramas were performed in Paris in 1831. It was not until 1844 and 1845 that his most celebrated works The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers were written.

The explosion of Dumas’ career as a romance novelist was controversial. Assistants and secretaries with whom he collaborated wrote in his style before he then reviewed what they had written. To their work he added his inventive touch and the finished product was published under his name. Dumas was criticized and even brought to trial for this collaboration. Despite this, the public loved his work. Dumas held his readers captive. Pieces of his narratives were published daily in journals. Each day the readers were left with the phrase, to be cont? They anxiously wondered what would happen next.

Dumas’ economic success was hindered by a lavish wild lifestyle. He was always in financial trouble. He once left Paris to live in Brussels because his creditors allowed him no peace. Fortunately, Dumas was brought back to Paris once a friend had regulated his accounts.

In 1860, Dumas’ whimsical nature brought him to Naples where the political insurgent Giuseppe Garibaldi had requested his presence. Here Dumas became involved with politics and also served as superintendent for an art museum. 1864 brought him back to Paris where he was watched over by his son. His son was also a writer who had amassed a glory of his own, as well as the fortune his father never could. His son tended to his father’s financial needs until Dumas’ death in 1870. Alexandre Dumas died on his son’s estate on December 5, 1870.

Dumas is best remembered for his historical novels such as Monte Cristo. Here, history forms the backdrop to the fantastic fictional inventions of a wild mind. Dumas’ output also contains romances such as the Valois romances and D’Artagnan. These works involve real historic characters and events to teach the French people their national history. Explanations of events are, however, a fabrication of Dumas’ imagination.

Never ceasing creativity is the heart of Dumas’ genius. His action filled dramas and novels capture the true essence of human spirit. Dumas’ sense of adventure lives on through the pages of his works.”

How many of you remember the “One-Drop-Rule?” It’s the rule that designates whether a person is to be considered ‘Black’ or not, by southern slave owners and their sympathizers. They also believed that Black People, and their descendants could not possibly be entitled to or possessing intellect and the spirit of simply being “Human.” They are the main believers who say that it’s not possible for all of man-kind’s beginnings in ‘Africa.’
In the opinion of this author, it’s safe to remind everyone, that it’s been proven over and over again, that “Man-Kind’s Existence Began In Africa!” And with the “First Man’s” ability to think and imagine, civilization became a reality…

Dumas’s plays, when judged from a modern viewpoint, are crude, brash, and melodramatic, but they were received with rapture in the late 1820s and early 1830s. Henri III et sa cour (1829) portrayed the French Renaissance in garish colours; Napoléon Bonaparte (1831) played its part in making a legend of the recently dead emperor; and in Antony (1831) Dumas brought a contemporary drama of adultery and honour to the stage.

Though he continued to write plays, Dumas next turned his attention to the historical novel, often working with collaborators (especially Auguste Maquet). Considerations of probability or historical accuracy generally were ignored, and the psychology of the characters was rudimentary. Dumas’s main interest was the creation of an exciting story set against a colourful background of history, usually the 16th or 17th century.

Dumas was born in Paris, France, the illegitimate child of Marie-Laure-Catherine Labay (1794–1868), a dressmaker, and novelist Alexandre Dumas. In 1831 his father legally recognized him and ensured that the young Dumas received the best education possible at the Institution Goubaux and the Collège Bourbon. At that time, the law allowed the elder Dumas to take the child away from his mother. Her agony inspired the younger Dumas to write about tragic female characters. In almost all of his writings, he emphasized the moral purpose of literature; in his play The Illegitimate Son (1858) he espoused the belief that if a man fathers an illegitimate child, then he has an obligation to legitimize the child and marry the woman (see Illegitimacy in fiction). At boarding schools, he was constantly taunted by his classmates because of his family situation. These issues profoundly influenced his thoughts, behaviour, and writing.

Dumas’ paternal great-grandparents were Marquis Alexandre-Antoine Davy de la Pailleterie, a French nobleman and Général commissaire in the Artillery in the colony of Saint-Domingue—now Haiti—and Marie-Cessette Dumas, an African slave. Their son Thomas-Alexandre Dumas became a high-ranking soldier under Napoleon.

In 1844, Dumas moved to Saint-Germain-en-Laye, near Paris, to live with his father. There he met Marie Duplessis, a young courtesan who would be the inspiration for the character Marguerite Gauthier in his romantic novel La Dame aux camélias (The Lady of the Camellias). Adapted into a play, it was titled Camille in English and became the basis for Verdi’s 1853 opera, La traviata, Duplessis undergoing yet another name change, this time to Violetta Valéry.

Although he admitted that he had done the adaptation because he needed the money, he had great success with the play, which started his career as a dramatist. He was not only more renowned than his father during his lifetime, but also dominated the serious French stage for most of the second half of the 19th century. After this, he virtually abandoned writing novels, though his semi-autobiographical L’Affaire Clemenceau (1867) achieved some solid success.

On 31 December 1864, in Moscow, Dumas married Nadezhda von Knorring (1826 – April 1895), daughter of Johan Reinhold von Knorring and widow of Alexander Grigorievich Narishkin. The couple had two daughters: Marie-Alexandrine-Henriette Dumas, born 20 November 1860, who married Maurice Lippmann and was the mother of Serge Napoléon Lippmann (1886–1975) and Auguste Alexandre Lippmann (1881–1960); and Jeanine Dumas (3 May 1867 – 1943), who married Ernest Lecourt d’Hauterive (1864–1957), son of George Lecourt d’Hauterive and his wife Léontine de Leusse. After Nadezhda’s death, Dumas married Henriette Régnier de La Brière (1851–1934) in June 1895, without issue.

In 1874, he was admitted to the Académie française and in 1894 he was awarded the Légion d’honneur.

Dumas died at Marly-le-Roi, Yvelines, on 27 November 1895, and was interred in the Montmartre Cemetery in Paris. His grave is some 100 metres away from that of Marie Duplessis.”

This month, everyone is (possibly) celebrating “Black History Month.” We all should be aware with the reminder to the world, there would be no history without ‘Black Folk(s).’ In celebrating Black History Month, the deeds were done throughout the years; should the celebration be entitled “Black History Years,” as opposed to “Black History Months?” I don’t know…‘Black History Months’ is pretty cool with me.

In light of the many statues that have come to pass… the removal of honors bestowed upon slaveholders/owners across these United States, has brought to play major controversy in the aftermath and ongoing association/practice of racism and bigotry.

Here in Philadelphia, a major proponent of separation between the races and hater of Black and Brown folk in this town was one ‘Frank Rizzo.’ He was the racist police commissioner and mayor back in the day who held a firm hatred for Black progression while entertaining a massive hatred for the local “Black Panther Party” as well as the “MOVE” organization. The removal of his statue which stands out in front of the ‘Municipal Services Building’ on JFK Blvd, across the street from City Hall raises the ire of many white folk in Philly. The erection of a Black Fist and Afro Hair Pick next to the despised monument, simply does not do justice for the representation of Black Folk in this city or any type of unification amongst the citizens of Philadelphia – The erection of the ‘Catto Statue’ does.

The name “Catto” was infamously dreaded and feared back in the day. If you were a kid attending school within the Philadelphia School System, you knew Catto as the bad school for boys; the other two (now defunct schools) were “Carmen” for girls, and “Daniel Boone” for boys.

We, who were ‘Black School Children,’ should have known exactly who this great man was. His name was known only for something negative contrary to something, of course, positive.

The name was successfully defamed and removed from the memory of all who knew him and his uplifting work. The ones who were placed in control, in charge…the ones who were entrusted with the power of educating and/or de-educating poor Black and Brown children throughout the school system. The meeting rooms were known to have echoed with loud and sinister laughter in the old school district headquarters located at 21st street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway. It was they who orchestrated the defamation of Catto’s name and legacy.

We as people of color…all people, parents, and grandparents should feel and realize the importance of not forgetting the history of the first, real, and huge honor bestowed upon “Octavius Valentine Catto,” by The city of Philadelphia, PA!

The intellectual, a.k.a., Brother Catto, circa 1959, had his name placed upon a school where academics had no meaning. Catto was a school that nobody wanted to attend. Like the defunct ‘Daniel Boone’ and ‘Carmen’ disciplinary schools, the school was only known for the day-time corralling of bullies, criminals in training, and juvenile delinquents. Many times when these classified individuals would turn up missing from the traditional hallways and locker rooms, it was believed that they has been shipped or transferred to one of those three schools – especially the one on South Street, “Catto!”

Brother Catto was shot and killed in broad day-light during his attempts at getting out the “Black Vote.” He was actively participating in getting Black Folk to the polls safely. Black Voters were openly threatened with violence and worse by white rioters and hoodlums who supported white supremacy and white domination for simply thinking about voting.

Despite many witnesses, he was killed by a white man who was, of course, acquitted of his murder. Another killer, a key witness for the defense was also charged with the killing of a Black Man on that very day and was acquitted previously.

The son of slaves, Catto was an intellectual who was educated by an intellect…his educated Father! He also studied the literary classics, advanced mathematics, and languages while being taught by the Quaker and Presbyterian Scholars and several other educated persons in the Free-Thinking Community.

Someone asked if Blacks could possibly be intellectual…especially descendants of ignorant slaves.

Catto certainly proved his mind more than worthy and most probably exceeding the mental prowess of those who declared or considered themselves to be superior to any race of a non-white society.

These superior thinking beings doubted themselves and entertained fear at the thought…the dangerous possibility of many persons like Catto being in existence. Could it be possible that many more of these people walked amongst them? What would happen it these Black intelligent minds were all capable of mastering intellectual thought? Could there be legions of Young Black African Americans with academic abilities waiting to teach other Young Black African Americans?

One question could be asked…was Catto murdered because he dared to teach? Was he killed for daring to be politically incorrect for believing himself to be capable of mastering intellectual thought and passing it along to other Blacks? Was his gift contagious? Could it be that he was killed for also having his students routinely recite and debate in open public forums and squares, displaying their competent abilities and awareness? …I wonder.

Octavius Valentine Catto was well known. He was, by the white power entity, considered an “enemy of the state.” He was considered to be guilty of continually striving to free the minds of Young Black People.

He was vehemently despised by the Philadelphia Black Democratic Party of the particular era, while being politely tolerated by the progressive anti-slavery wing of the Republican Party.

I can honestly say that I am in total agreement with Brother ‘Jim Scott’ of SCOOP USA, on the unveiling of ‘The Octavius Valentine Catto Statue’ which now sits upon the apron of Philadelphia’s City Hall Courtyard as a great moment in the history of ‘Philly!’

If anyone deserves to be commemorated in chiseled stone – it’s Brother Catto!

The name of Dr. Catto should be remembered by People of Color – All People and recognized alongside Dr. King and many other Black American Heroes… However, it wasn’t, was it? We can ask why, but we all know the answer to that question…don’t we?

Julian Francis Abele (April 30, 1881 – April 23, 1950) was a prominent African-American architect, and chief designer in the offices of Horace Trumbauer. He was the primary designer of the west campus of Duke University (1924–54). Abele’s contributions to the Trumbauer firm were great, but the only building for which he claimed authorship during Trumbauer’s lifetime was the Duke University Chapel; after Trumbauer’s death, he was more open in claiming credit for his work, which included the original architectural drawings for Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Julian Abele was born in Philadelphia into a prominent family. His maternal grandfather was Robert Jones, who in the late 18th century founded the city’s Lombard Street Central Presbyterian Church. He was also related to Absalom Jones, who established the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas in 1794, the first black church in Philadelphia. His nephew, Julian Abele Cook, worked as the Building Coordinator for Howard University, and Abele’s son, Julian Francis Abele, Jr. was an architectural engineer.

Abele’s temperament and his life defy easy characterization. He was a dedicated francophile, and his wife was French. A devotee of the Philadelphia Orchestra as well as of the University of Pennsylvania football team, he was reserved and always immaculately dressed. One friend noted that even on vacations at the beach he always wore his suit to the boardwalk.

Abele worked in many media: watercolor, lithography, etching and pencil,, while also working wood, iron, gold and silver.. He designed and constructed all his own furniture; even doing the petit point himself… While he knew many historic styles, he seemed to love Louis XIV French most of all..

Education:

Abele attended the Quaker-run Institute for Colored Youth, which later became Cheyney University, where he excelled in mathematics and was chosen to deliver the commencement address. In 1898, he completed a two-year architectural drawing course at the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art (PMSIA).

He was the first black student admitted to the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. This achievement was all the more noteworthy for the restrictions blacks faced at the university, including not being able to live in dormitories or dine in the school’s cafeteria. On projects assigned to pairs of students, he partnered with Louis Magaziner, the only Jewish student in the department, who also faced discrimination. This was the beginning of a lifelong friendship between the two.

He won a 1901 student competition to design a Beaux Arts pedestrian gateway. His submission was in the form of an exedra – a curved bench flanked by piers, but with steps passing through its center. This became his first commission when it was built on the campus of Haverford College. The Edward B. Conklin Memorial Gate stands at the Railroad Avenue entrance to the college. He was widely respected among his peers, earning the nickname “Willing and Able”, and also won student awards for his designs for a post office and a museum of botany, and he was elected as the president of the university’s Architectural Society.

He became the University of Pennsylvania architecture department’s first black graduate in 1902. He worked part-time for a local architect and attend evening classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Under the financial sponsorship of Philadelphia architect Horace Trumbauer, he traveled through France and Italy, an experience that was to influence his design work throughout his life.

École des Beaux-Arts:

Between 1903 and his hiring by Horace Trumbauer in 1906, Abele traveled throughout Europe. His descendants contend that he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris during his stay. But Sandra L. Tatman, co-author of The Biographical Dictionary of Philadelphia Architects, 1700-1930, could find no record of his having been enrolled at the École. She allows that he may have been permitted to informally sit in on the school’s atelier. She also notes that Abele listed travel to France, Italy, England, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain on his membership application to the American Institute of Architects (AIA), but not study at the École des Beaux-Arts.

Immediately after his graduation from Penn in 1902, Abele traveled west to Spokane, Washington, where he designed a house for his sister, Elizabeth Abele Cook, before returning east. In 1906, Abele joined the Trumbauer firm as assistant to chief designer Frank Seeburger. When Seeburger left the firm in 1909, Abele advanced to chief designer. Abele’s stature within the firm was no secret; he was the second-highest paid employee. He was an architect.

Art historian David B. Brownlee studied the 14-year effort to design and build the Philadelphia Museum of Art, 1914-28. He credits Trumbauer architect Howell Lewis Shay with the building’s plan and massing, but notes that the final perspective drawings are in Abele’s distinctive hand. Design of the exterior terracing, including the front steps celebrated in the 1976 film Rocky, is credited to Abele.

Following Trumbauer’s death in 1938, the firm continued until 1950 under the name “Office of Horace Trumbauer,” co-headed by Abele and William O. Frank. Commissions were hard to come by during The Depression and World War II, but the firm completed Duke Indoor Stadium at Duke University in 1940, which was renamed Cameron Indoor Stadium in 1972, and later made additions to Duke’s Library (1948) and designed Duke’s Allen Administrative Building (1954).

When Abele joined the American Institute of Architects in 1942, Philadelphia Museum of Art director Fiske Kimball called him “one of the most sensitive designers in America”. Smithsonian Magazine described him, in a career retrospective, as “probably the most accomplished [Black Architect] of his era.”

Despite being the primary designer of Duke University, Abele was refused accommodations at a Durham hotel during a visit to campus. Although it was not until 1988 that a portrait of him was displayed at the University, the main quad at Duke University is now officially named Abele Quad with a dedication plaque prominently placed at the busiest spot on campus.

Family:

In 1925, at the age of 44, he married Marguerite Bulle, a French pianist 20 years his junior. They had three children: Julian Abele, Jr., Marguerite Marie Abele (died young), and Nadia Boulanger Abele. Marguerite left him in 1936, to become the common-law wife of opera singer Jozep Kowalewski, with whom she had three additional children. Because Abele never took action to divorce his wife, the Kowalewski children shared in his estate.

He died from a heart attack in 1950, in Philadelphia.

Legacy:

The Allen Administration Building at Duke University, which he designed, was completed after his death in 1950.

In 1988 Duke University honored Abele with his portrait that is displayed in the main lobby of the Allen Building. It was the first portrait of an African-American to be displayed on the campus. To prominently acknowledge his contribution to Duke University’s West Campus, the main quad at Duke is now officially named Abele Quad with a dedication plaque prominently placed at the busiest spot on campus.

On August 17, 2012, construction began on Julian Abele Park, at 22nd & Carpenter Streets in Philadelphia.

Architectural historian Dreck Spurlock Wilson is preparing the first biography of Abele.

When one thinks of “Walls” and “Keeping Out The Immigrants” I can’t help thinking about all those folks who fought and died to come to this land…as well as those who did not; brought here against their will(s), in chains. Did the people who happened to already be residing in and upon this land…did they welcome the new comers, the immigrants; or where the new comers invaders and usurpers of this land? Did they come to the ‘America’s’ as invited guests or occupiers?

Dear Friends, Readers, Fans, I apologize.

I have the greatest admiration and commendations for our Italian American Family. Like every other “American” group of people, we’ve all made astounding significant contributions to this country of ours. However, there have been many who have added to the detriment of our causes. Each and every immigrant to this land has experienced its’ share of bad guys and gals. With that being said, we’ve also had our share of one group against the other. But when it comes to an out-and-out criminal…one could easily wonder why. Why continue to be a proponent of one who has been identified as being the opposite of what we have all been taught?
I like ‘Italian American Day (or month; i.e., “Black History Month, Native/Indegenous American History Month, Asian History Month, Latino History Month, Etc.”)’ as opposed to “Christopher Columbus Day.” I also think, if one had to have a singular character to represent all, I would want someone who is truly a character who would have been a bonafide ‘good-guy’ and true-to-life-figure! How in the hell can you discover something when there is already somebody living there; a new land when there is/was someone living on it at the time of the so-called discovery?

That’s like someone walking into your house, taking a seat at the dinner table or sits down in front of the TV in your living room without your invitation or permission! What if he goes upstairs and gets in the bed with your wife or one of your children and says to you, “It’s okay, I’ve just now discovered all of this…and claim it all as mine?

Has anyone wondered why “Amerigo Vespucci” wasn’t chosen for the columbus role? There was a hell-of-a-lot going on in and around ‘1492.’

According to ‘Wkikipedia,’ “Amerigo Vespucci (Italian pronunciation: [ameˈriːɡo vesˈputtʃi]; was an Italian explorer, financier, navigator and cartographer who first demonstrated that Brazil and the West Indies did not represent Asia’s eastern outskirts as initially conjectured from Columbus’ voyages, but instead constituted an entirely separate landmass hitherto unknown to people of the Old World.
Colloquially referred to as the New World, this second super continent came to be termed “Americas”, deriving its name from Americus, the Latin version of Vespucci’s first name.”

“While his elder brothers were sent to the University of Pisa to pursue scholarly careers, Amerigo Vespucci embraced a mercantile life, and was hired as a clerk by the Florentine commercial house of Medici, headed by Lorenzo de’ Medici. Vespucci acquired the favor and protection of Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de’ Medici who became the head of the business after the elder Lorenzo’s death in 1492. In March 1492, the Medici dispatched the thirty-eight-year-old Vespucci and Donato Niccolini as confidential agents to look into the Medici branch office in Cádiz (Spain), whose managers and dealings were under suspicion.

In April 1495, by the intrigues of Bishop Juan Rodríguez de Fonseca, the Crown of Castile broke their monopoly deal with Christopher Columbus and began handing out licenses to other navigators for the West Indies. Vespucci organized the fulfillment of Berardi’s outstanding contract with the Castilian crown to provide twelve vessels for the Indies. After these were delivered, Vespucci continued as a provision contractor for Indies expeditions, and is known to have secured beef supplies for at least one (if not two) of Columbus’ voyages.”

“Some have suggested that Vespucci, in the two letters published in his lifetime, was exaggerating his role and constructed deliberate fabrications. However, many scholars now believe that the two letters were not written by him but were fabrications by others based in part on genuine letters by Vespucci. It was the publication and widespread circulation of the letters that might have led Waldseemüller to name the new continent America on his world map of 1507 in Lorraine. Vespucci used a Latinised form of his name, Americus Vespucius, in his Latin writings, which Waldseemüller used as a base for the new name, taking the feminine form America, according to the prevalent view. The book accompanying the map stated: “I do not see what right any one would have to object to calling this part, after Americus who discovered it and who is a man of intelligence, Amerige, that is, the Land of Americus, or America: since both Europa and Asia got their names from women”. It is possible that Vespucci was not aware that Waldseemüller had named the continent after him.[8]
The two disputed letters claim that Vespucci made four voyages to America, while at most two can be verified from other sources. At the moment, there is a dispute between historians on when Vespucci visited the mainland the first time. Some historians like Germán Arciniegas and Gabriel Camargo Pérez think that his first voyage was made in June 1497 with the Spanish Pilot Juan de la Cosa.

Vespucci’s real historical importance may well rest more in his letters, whether he wrote them all or not, than in his discoveries. From these letters, the European public learned about the newly discovered continents of the Americas for the first time; its existence became generally known throughout Europe within a few years of the letters’ publication.”

Trump has been frustrated by Republicans’ failure to repeal and replace the law known as Obamacare, thwarting a promise he made during his 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump on Friday urged Democrats to make a healthcare deal after cutting off Obamacare subsidies to health insurance companies for low-income patients in a forceful move that sparked threats of legal action and concern of chaos in insurance markets!

“It is a spiteful act of vast, pointless sabotage leveled at working families and the middle class in every corner of America,” they said. “Make no mistake about it, Trump will try to blame the Affordable Care Act, but this will fall on his back and he will pay the price for it.”

Trump proudly says, “Piece by piece we will now begin the process of giving America the great HealthCare it deserves!”

The decision is the most dramatic action Trump has taken yet to weaken the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law, which extended insurance to 20 million Americans.

“Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi derided the subsidies cut-off in a joint statement, saying Trump would single-handedly push Americans’ healthcare premiums higher.

“It is a spiteful act of vast, pointless sabotage leveled at working families and the middle class in every corner of America,” they said. “Make no mistake about it, Trump will try to blame the Affordable Care Act, but this will fall on his back and he will pay the price for it.”

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman said in a statement he was prepared to lead other attorneys general in a lawsuit.

“I will not allow  Trump to once again use New York families as political pawns in his dangerous, partisan campaign to eviscerate the Affordable Care Act at any cost,” he wrote.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that cutting off the payments would cause premiums to rise 20 percent in 2018 and that 5 percent of Americans would live in areas that do not have an insurer in the individual market in 2018.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), Trump spoke to a hate group last week — and he was a hit. The Family Research Council, which is on the SPLC hate group list, invited the 45th president to speak at the Values Voter Summit, an annual socially conservative conference. This proved to be a political layup for Trump, the first sitting president to speak at the conference, amidst the turmoil surrounding his administration.

A key focal point to the address was the so-called war on Christmas. Trump vowed that, under his lead, department stores across the country will return to acknowledging the Christmas holiday.

He also used the crowd to push for action on replacing the Affordable Care Act. This comes on the heels of his decision to roll back an Obamacare requirement to provide birth control as part of health insurance programs.

A Facebook page for Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore, known for fueling the “birther” movement against former President Barack Obama and for an anti-LBGTQ agenda, contained racist posts aimed at NFL players who protest during the national anthem.

A post shared on Moore’s page in September of last year shows rows of military coffins draped in the American flag. Under the image, the text read, “would the suppressed millionaire, NFL quarterback who would not stand for the National Anthem please point out which of these guys are Black so we can remove the offensive flag.”

Although Trump did not campaign for Moore, they share the same sentiments regarding NFL players who kneel during the national anthem to protest police brutality against the Black community, a move initiated by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in 2016.

“Wild Fires have Engulfed many places across the Globe!”

says

Columnist, Mike Weilbacher.

He notes none have been more scarier than,of all places, ‘Greenland.’ Glaciers are being covered with soot that absorbs the Sunlight energy, melting the glaciers faster than they were intended.

The fires of Greenland have taken hold because of many thick layers of peat moss covering the ground in that region. The thickened layers of moss are usually covered by snow and ice which prevents it from smoldering.

However, the “Permafrost” protection has melted faster than predicted, allowing these peat moss fires to smolder for long periods of time.

Oregon, according to Weilbacher, has now been gripped by one of the worst wildfires in recent memory. These lost headlines of horrible events have chased and caused the evacuation of thousands of “Eclipse-Chasing-Tourists” during the eye-opening event of a little more than a week ago.

During a brutal heatwave earlier this summer, the Pacific Northwest have sorely labored; the Mercury hitting a sizzling 104 degrees in Seattle and 107 in Portland, regions that purportedly foregoes air-conditioning its not needed – until now.

In ‘South Asia,’ ‘India,’ and especially ‘Pakistan,’ Weilbacher reports scorching temperatures have become commonplace due to “Climate Change” and “Global Warming!” This past month of June, in the remote Pakistani town of ‘Turbat,’ the temps have been recorded at 130 degrees plus…a record for Asia and the third highest temperatures ever recorded on this planet Earth!

“Peoples’ sandals have been grabbed while walking on the melting asphalt covering the region’s roadways. The reporter goes on to say that about 5,000 people have been killed by heatwaves of the last four to five years.

Lucifer,” has gripped Europe’s continent during the most recent summer heatwaves. Nearly half of Spain was placed under emergency alert during times when the numbers reach 111 degrees or higher.

A mountain resort called “Slovenia,” of ‘Vogel,’ experienced its first “Tropical Night.” Overnight temperatures in this high-mountain town has never before endured temps above 68 degrees.

Its been said that ‘Lucifer’ most likely exacerbated Europe’s wildfire activity during the summer seasons. Portugal reported a raging forest fire back in June that killed a great deal of people. Many of those people died trapped in their cars.

In France, last month, more than 20,000 people had to be evacuated during a July heatwave and wildfire threats.

The people of this continent named the summer heatwave “Lucifer” because of the unprecedented deadly heat, heat “The Likes of Which No One Has Ever Seen Before!”

July 2017, worldwide, according to climate scientists, has tied for the hottest month ever recorded. They have all agreed with the calculations of this year’s incredibly high odds of this heatwave as being the 2nd or 3rd hottest years ever.

Meteorologists also report that 16 of the 17 hottest years have occurred between the year 2000 and 2016. This also means that this is the third consecutive record breaking year of breaking the temp record. In the last thirty-two years, every month since February 1985, the average surface temp of the planet has been higher than the century’s average, wrote Weilbacher, Friday, 8.25.17, The Leader, News, pg. 11, Mt. Airy Times Express.

The people of ‘Turbat, Pakistan,’ have also been reported to say that “It’s gotten so hot that people here said there is no difference between Turbat and Hell – It’s like a fire was burning all of the time outside!”

The Climate Change Report was Leaked,” Weilbacher says, “To the press the day the current resident of the ‘White House’ used the phrase “Fire and Fury” regarding North Korea, which had just fired another missile.

While the current resident on Capital Hill was wholeheartedly and roundly criticized for ramping up the heat, the phrase is oddly attached to the issue of “climate change.”

Could this all be considered a trend or a coincidence?

While this fella in the ‘White House’ Claims not to believe in climate change, the raw data is neither “fake news” nor an “alternate truth.” Like all things scientific – its measurable and observable!

The 8.25.17 report also recorded a multi-agency government report on climate change that was leaked because scientists were worried that the report’s conclusions would be scrubbed or scratched. The report continued to say the publication noted it is “extremely likely” that more than half of the world’s global average temperature rise since 1951 is linked to human behavior, concluding that “evidence for a changing climate abounds, from the top of the atmosphere to the depths of the oceans.”

The exhaustive climate reports are published every four years. One of the government’s so-called leaders in the review process who regularly follows the procedure is supposed to be the president’s science adviser.

However, the guy sitting in the ‘oval office’ – doesn’t have a “Science Adviser!”

Was “Hurricane Harvey” (for that matter, all of the weather related catastrophes’ of late – particularly in the southern regions of the US) an act of GOD…Or a punishment to mankind?

Now in light of all that has been said and done by the current governmental administration…what’s it gonna be, “The Fire or The Fury?”

Trump had begun a career in home construction and sales. The development company was incorporated as E. Trump & Son in 1927, and grew to build and manage single-family houses in Queens, barracks and garden apartments for U.S. Navy personnel near major shipyards along the East Coast, and more than 27,000 apartments in New York City.
Trump was investigated by a U.S. Senate committee for wartime profiteering (1954), and by the U.S. Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division for civil rights violations (1973). According to The New York Times and The Washington Post, Trump’s reputation as a landlord inspired a critical song by tenant and folk singer, Woody Guthrie.

Friedrich Trump’s name was incorrectly recorded as Trumpf on the passenger list of his ship when he immigrated to the USA. Britt Peterson of The Boston Globe reports, based on the Blair biography, that the family had changed the spelling from the ancestral Drumpf, sometime during the Thirty Years’ War (1618–1648).

Frederick Christ Trump was born in the Bronx on October 11, 1905.Trump was one of three children of German immigrants Elizabeth (née Christ) and Frederick Trump. He had a younger brother John and an older sister Elizabeth Trump Walters (1904–1961).

On Memorial Day in 1927, the Ku Klux Klan marched in Queens to protest that “Native-born Protestant Americans” were being “assaulted by Roman Catholic police of New York City”. Fred Trump was one of seven men who were arrested that day “on a charge of refusing to disperse from a parade when ordered to do so.”

In 2016, Vice magazine reported on their investigation of earlier newspaper clippings and found that Trump was the only person arrested who was not charged with any crime, leading them to conclude that he could have been a bystander; they also speculated that Trump may have been a member of the KKK, which had gone through a revival in urban areas after 1915. When asked about the issue in September 2015 by The New York Times, Donald Trump, then a candidate for presidency of the United States, denied that his father had been arrested, or that he had been in the KKK.

In 1954, Trump was investigated by a U.S. Senate committee for profiteering from public contracts, including overstating his Beach Haven building charges by $3.7 million. In testimony before the Senate Banking Committee in 1954, William F. McKenna, appointed to investigate “scandals” within the FHA, cited Fred C. Trump and his partner William Tomasello as examples of how profits were made by builders using the FHA. McKenna said the two paid $34,200 for a piece of land which they rented to their corporation for over $60,000 per year in a 99-year lease, so that if the apartment they built on it ever defaulted, the FHA would owe $1.5 million on it. McKenna said that Trump and Tomasello obtained loans for $3.5 million more than the apartments cost.Trump testified before the Senate Banking Committee the following month as it investigated “windfall profits.” He said that builders would not have built apartments under an expired post-war loan insurance program if regulations had set inflexible limits on loans issued by the FHA. Folk icon Woody Guthrie, who from 1950 was a tenant in one of Trump’s apartment complexes in Brooklyn, criticized Trump as a landlord. He wrote lyrics that accused his landlord of stirring up racial hate “in the bloodpot of human hearts”.

In 1973, the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a civil rights suit against the Trump Organization (TO; Fred Trump, chair, 27-year-old Donald Trump, president) charging it with “violating the Fair Housing Act of 1968.” In response, Trump attorney Roy Cohn filed a counter-suit against the government for $100 million, “portray[ing] the Trumps as the victims,” claiming the DOJ’s “falsely accusing them of discrimination.”

The suits arose after complaints to the New York City Commission on Human Rights and to the Urban League led the League and other groups to send black and white “testers” to apply for apartments in Trump-owned complexes, which led them to conclude that whites got apartments in the buildings of their interest, while blacks generally did not; both advocacy organizations then raised the issue with the Justice Department. As reported by Wayne Barrett and Jon Campbell for The Village Voice, citing court records, “four superintendents or rental agents confirmed that applications sent to the [TO] central office for acceptance or rejection were coded by race.

“An early Village Voice article by Wayne Barrett in 1979 cited court records from the case and reported that a TO rental agent indicated he had been given instructions by Fred Trump “not to rent to blacks” and to “decrease the number of black tenants” by encouraging their relocation to other housing. After approximately two years in court, a consent decree between the DOJ and the TO was signed (June 10, 1975), with both sides claiming victory—the TO for its perceived ability to continue to deny rentals to welfare recipients, and the head of DOJ’s housing division for the decree being “one of the most far-reaching ever negotiated,” as it personally and corporately prohibited the Trumps and the TO from “discriminating against any person in the terms, conditions, or privileges  of sale or rental of a dwelling,” and “required Trump to advertise vacancies in minority papers and list vacancies… [preferentially, with a Center of] the Urban League,” as well as to use the ads to inform potential minority applicants that they had equal opportunity to seek housing at TO properties. Finally, it required the TO to “promote minorities to professional jobs,” and it ordered the Trumps “to ‘thoroughly acquaint themselves personally on a detailed basis’ with the Fair Housing Act.” The Justice Department would subsequently further complain that continuing “racially discriminatory conduct by Trump agents has occurred with such frequency that it has created a substantial impediment to the full enjoyment of equal opportunity.”

A Kluxer To The End:

Fred Trump suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for six years. He fell ill with pneumonia in June 1999 and was admitted to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, where he died at age 93 a few weeks later. Trump’s estate was estimated by his family at $250 million to $300 million; his funeral was held at the Marble Collegiate Church. He is interred at Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens. His widow, Mary, died the following summer, on August 7, 2000, in New Hyde Park, New York, at age 88.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans’ latest health care plan would create winners and losers among Americans up and down the income ladder, and across age groups.

“It would give consumers more responsibility for their insurance choices, a goal long held by conservatives who argue that’s key to a true health care market. Younger adults and healthy people in the solid middle class may find more agreeable options. But low-income people may not be able to afford coverage, along with older and sicker adults.

And there are potential unintended consequences for people with employer-provided insurance, currently about 170 million Americans. Allowing individuals to pay premiums from tax-sheltered accounts may create incentives for employers to stop offering coverage, say some independent analysts.

The legislation would put limits on federal spending for Medicaid, a partnership program with states to cover low-income people, the disabled and nursing home residents. The drawback is that state officials could eventually face no-win choices, such as having to pick between paying for coverage for low-wage working mothers and support services for elderly people trying to stay out of nursing homes.

As Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., steers toward debate and votes next week, here is a look at some of the latest changes and major issues:

 

CRUZ’S PLAN:

The new Senate bill incorporates the core of a proposal from Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, that would reorganize the market for policies purchased by individuals. As many as 20 million Americans get coverage this way, about half through subsidized markets like HealthCare.gov, created under former President Barack Obama.

Cruz would change basic requirements that Obama’s law imposed on individual plans, including standard benefits such as pregnancy, maternity and newborn care; wellness visits and mental health treatment. The law also requires the same premium rates for sick and healthy people.

Under the Cruz approach, an insurer can offer plans that don’t comply with such requirements, provided they also offer coverage that does. The problem, say critics, is that the healthy would flock to low-premium, skimpy plans, leaving the sick to face escalating prices for comprehensive coverage.

“Healthy people would have opportunities to buy lower-premium, skinnier plans, while people with pre-existing conditions not eligible for premium subsidies could find themselves priced out of insurance,” said Larry Levitt of the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation.

The latest bill includes another $70 billion to help states keep health insurance affordable for older, sicker customers. But it’s not clear how those backstops would work, and the federal funding eventually would end.

Some insurers are worried because of a technical change with huge practical implications: Health plans that enroll healthier customers would no longer have to cross-subsidize those with sicker patients, as is currently required.

“We think it is unworkable,” said Justine Handelman, top Washington lobbyist for the BlueCross BlueShield Association. She predicted skyrocketing costs for taxpayers also, stuck with the bill for sicker patients.

 

EMPLOYER ESCAPE HATCH?:

McConnell’s new bill made a major change to tax-sheltered health savings accounts, which was also advocated by Cruz.

Under the bill, health savings accounts could be used to pay premiums with pre-tax money. Under current law, they can only be used to cover out-of-pocket costs, such as deductibles and copayments.

The change is meant to level the playing field for people buying individual plans, as compared to people getting employer coverage. The value of workplace insurance is tax-free for employees and tax-deductible for employers.

But some analysts say McConnell risks undermining workplace coverage.

The upside is that the change might encourage more self-employed people to buy individual health insurance policies. The downside is that some employers may see it as an invitation to drop health benefits, particularly since the GOP also would repeal Obama’s requirement that larger companies provide health care or face fines.

“Allowing individuals to purchase insurance with pre-tax dollars eliminates one of the advantages to employer-provided insurance,” said Elizabeth Carpenter of the Avalere Health consulting firm. “That may lead some employers to consider whether or not they want to continue to offer health insurance.”

 

THE POOR AND THE SICK:

McConnell kept some of the Obama-era tax increases used by Democrats to finance expanded coverage. But the money will be going to shore up private insurance, not the Medicaid program. Medicaid accounts for half or more of the 20 million Americans gaining coverage as a result of the Affordable Care Act.

Medicaid covers low-income people, from many pregnant women and newborns, to disabled people and many elderly nursing home residents. The GOP bill would start by phasing out enhanced federal financing for Obama’s Medicaid expansion, adopted by 31 states. Perhaps more significantly, it would limit future federal funding for the overall program. As a result, it’s estimated Medicaid would cover 15 million fewer people by 2026.

The bill would add $45 billion to help states confronting the opioid epidemic pay for treatment and recovery. But that hasn’t swayed the American Medical Association, which points out that people in recovery also need comprehensive health insurance.

 

Republican governors don’t like the Medicaid cuts, and some have been vocal. About half the states that expanded Medicaid now have GOP chief executives.

 

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, a Republican who oversaw a Medicaid expansion, said more than 200,000 people gained coverage in his state.”

“You think about 210,000 men, women and children, senior citizens, the drug addicted, the chronically ill,” Sandoval said. “These are people that used to get their treatment in emergency rooms, if they got any treatment at all. I keep going back to the fact that they are living a better quality of life.”

Further research reveals through other reports as well, “around twenty-five to more than thirty thousand children from Philadelphia were removed from the ‘Medicaid rolls.’

This particular recorded era came to life at the end of 2012. It was supposed to be part of an effort to eliminate patients with outdated paperwork. According to the ‘City Paper, The Bell Curve, CP’s Quality-O-Life-O-Meter, April 5, 2012, #1401 – The Naked City also said that ‘Corbett,’ the former governer, made grossly negligent statements regarding under-privledged children and their healthcare dilemma.

“If these children want healthcare, they should be willing to fight for it…may the odds be ever in your favor, little girl with brittle bones.”

What are we supposed to make of that type of position and/or statement from an elected official who happens to be an employee of and for the ‘TAXPAYERS’ – who might happen to be recipients of ‘Medicare,’ ‘Medicaid,’ ‘Social Security,’ ‘Disability,’ ‘a paycheck of The Working Poor,’ or ‘Welfare?’

The Mystery:
