When was the last time that you’ve washed your hands properly? What about the person next to you at the sink in the restroom – did she/he wash their hands properly? Did they wash their hands at all? How about the guys and gals who are serving your food at the counter or the person who prepares your order? Did they wash their hands?

 

Overview

 

“You’ve probably heard people talking about the stomach bug or stomach flu going around at work or your child’s school. But what exactly is it? The technical term for this sickness is viral gastroenteritis, which is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines.

 

Food poisoning is different. It’s more common than the stomach bug. About 1 in 6 Americans, or roughly 48 million people, experience food poisoning each year.

 

Stomach Bug Vs. Stomach Flu:

Symptoms of a stomach bug

 

If you have the stomach bug, or viral gastroenteritis, you may have one or more of the following symptoms:

 

diarrhea

stomach cramps

nausea

vomiting

a fever

weight loss

joint aches

muscle aches

 

Stomach bug and stomach flu are both terms for viral gastroenteritis.

People typically develop stomach bug symptoms within 24 to 48 hours of being exposed to the virus.

 

Symptoms of food poisoning:

 

Typical symptoms of food poisoning include

stomach cramping

fatigue

diarrhea or constipation

a fever

chills

muscle aches

headaches

sweating

thirst

general malaise

 

In severe cases, you can have:

 

bloody stool or vomit

severe abdominal cramping

shock

a loss of consciousness

 

The symptoms of food poisoning usually appear two to six hours after initial exposure. Symptoms typically don’t last longer than two days. Food poisoning can occur in anyone, but it is most common in babies, young children, and the elderly.

 

Symptoms of dehydration

 

After several days with either the stomach bug or food poisoning, you may develop dehydration. Watch for the following signs and symptoms of dehydration:

 

a decrease in urine output

dryness in your mouth or throat

dizziness when standing

dry diapers

a lack of tears in babies and toddlers

low blood pressure

a lack of tears

excessive thirst

dark urine

dizziness, especially with standing

 

Babies may have sunken eyes and fontanels. The fontanel is also known as the soft spot. You should seek medical attention if any of these symptoms occur.”

 

 

My experiences with “Food-Poisoning” began a while back when I consumed so-called healthy peanuts, cashews, and a bunch of assorted nuts purchased from the grocery store. Now, many of us simply enjoy these types of healthy snacks and use them in abundance.

 

But when you come down with a sudden attack of vomiting and/or diarrhea, you often wonder if you’ve caught a stomach bug or if you just ate something bad.

 

“The viruses, bacteria, and parasites that cause gastroenteritis are often food borne, so most of the time you did eat something bad. In all cases you ate the germ. They are considered to be types of food poisoning. They are contagious, so food poisoning from them is contagious. Spinach contaminated with e.coli, berries contaminated with norovirus, and cantaloupe, sprouts, and peanuts contaminated with salmonella are examples of contagious food poisoning. You can also catch these illnesses directly from other people and it usually takes at least 24 hours after ingestion to get sick. (Norovirus can occasionally strike as early as 12 hours after exposure.) However, if you have gotten sick (started vomiting) within 8 hours of eating a questionable food item, then you may have regular non-contagious food poisoning. Non-contagious food poisoning occurs when you eat some food that has been improperly stored (or sat out too long) and bacteria have grown on it. The bacteria produce toxins that make you sick (even if you reheat the food the toxins will still be there).”

‘Caveat Emptor’

 

 

Grocery shopping at the neighborhood supermarket like ‘Shop-Rite,’ ‘Acme,’ ‘Save-A-Lot,’ or ‘Fresh Grocer’ will temp you into buying more than you’ve planned.

 

The prospect of “Food-Poisoning” is an often overlooked occurrence in the conversations of many. The topic usually comes up if and or when one is personally affected by this common disease.

 

How many times do you think the average citizen purchases a “Fast-Food” product in her or his daily routine at work, play, or some other away from home activity?

 

Often times, we in our daily activities run into fast food establishments to pacify our lusty cravings for a Burger, a slice of Pizza, a Cheesesteak, Hoagie, or that fresh piece of Southern-Fried Chicken or Fish; and of course the all-mighty “French Fry!” Maybe you’ll top it off with a ‘Diet Soda,’ a ‘Salad,’ or a “Milk-Shake” or two from the nearby “Micky D’s” or “Burger King?” Not to mention the neighborhood corner store who happens to make a sandwich or two on the side.

 

Now that we’ve touched upon the quickie-snack-fix, what about the sit-down at the table or booth enticement? Oh yes, the food-bug also punches people in the belly in these so-called safe eatery environments too. Have you ever been to an ‘i-Hop,’ ‘Applebee’s,’ ‘Olive-Garden,’ ‘Red-Lobster,’ ‘Chi-Chi’s,’ or ‘Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.),’ ‘Mexican,’ ‘Jamaican,’ ‘African,’ and/or ‘Middle-Eastern’ cuisine? I’m sure that you have. These fine places are some of our favorite places of pleasingly opulent consumption.

 

Have you ever been sickened at or by one or some of the delicacies of these types of places? What about that “rumbly-in-the-tumbly” sensation that maybe caused a bit of dizziness or that over-powering urge to make a mad dash to the nearest ‘john’ (toilet those of you who are not familiar with john)?

 

What did you do, think, or feel when everything inside you suddenly, unavoidably, and violently forced its way up and out of you…the top and/or bottom? If you’re one of the lucky ones, you’ll have missed the fever, aches, and chills that commonly accompany this sort of ailment. This often food-borne suffering can be deadly to those who are aged, sickly (immune deficiencies, etc.), and very young. Many people of this group simply do not have the physical capacity to fight off sudden ailments like ‘food-poisoning.’ Many elderly folk are commonly consumers of prescription medications that act in the nature of suppressants to these individuals. Sea-Food allergies pose the number one threat to people of this group.

 

Some years ago, I suffered an attack of such magnitude after consuming a couple of burgers from a Germantown burger joint. I’m sure that this food intake was the culprit of my ailment because I’d eaten nothing but that particular meal throughout that entire day. As soon as I’d arrived home, I began to feel woozy and shaky. Later that night, fever set in. I was fine. I did feel fine up to and not long after eating those burgers. It was approximately four, maybe five hours after consuming the food is when I realized what I’d done or what it was that made me feel sick.

 

This series of events put me down for two and a half days. Sure, I should have notified the restaurant of this misadventure with their cooked product. But I felt it would have been a lost cause because they wouldn’t believe me anyway. I was convinced that I would be beating a dead horse with explanations from the manager as to why their food was safe and bacteria free even though the entire staff is younger than my Grandchildren.

 

On a recent occasion, I believed that I was sickened by eating a cheese burger product from a well-known fast-food establishment boasting of arches. Again, the sandwich was the only food that I’d consumed within the entire day. It was a filling sandwich that held my hunger in check for the entire evening and night. Early the next morning however, was an entirely different experience.

 

When the tide of illness had departed me on the next day, I was hell-bent on revenge to the fullest! “I’m going to make them pay for this!” I vowed. Oh yes, I planned to confront the manager and threaten action if I was not brought to satisfaction.

 

…But then upon speaking with one of my sons via the telephone, he disclosed the fact that my grandson experienced the identical symptoms that I displayed a few days before. And then I remembered all of the others in my immediate family who have also displayed symptoms of the same or of some similarity…

 

This recollection delayed my visit to the fast-food establishment. Now I was not sure of whom

it was that was the guilty party in my unfortunate encounter.

 

I still think it is a very good idea to make contact with the restaurant or fast-food business where you made a purchase should you, someone you know, or a loved-one becomes ill after consuming a product. After all, all it takes is just one employee to not follow the safety rules and guidelines to make someone who is being served ill. How many times have you witnessed someone who is preparing fast-food not washing his or her hands – what about the utensils that they are preparing food with? Is all of the tools, i.e., knives, spatulas, etc., being cross-contaminated on the serving or cutting boards?

 

We as citizens come into contact with thousands upon thousands of other individuals on any given day. We have a personal responsibility to ourselves, loved ones, and the general public at large to be aware of what you can do to prevent contamination while practicing safe hand-washing and the prevention of potential disease spreading dangers.

 

With this last ‘quick-food fiasco,’ I do think my road will slow in the consumption of fast food. Albeit, I can truthfully say that I will probably eat out again (not in the near future though) as the aforementioned places do offer that “get-out-of-the-kitchen” break and/or the let’s grab a bite mentality after a night out, a show, or late meeting availability. The fast food industry has its place and I dare say will not be going anywhere any time soon or in the near future.

 

We simply have to be aware of our ability to make sure that we are and remain safe when eating out and at home.

 

Treating A Stomach Bug

 

“Dehydration is a serious concern for people who have the stomach virus. Watch for the symptoms of dehydration. You should seek medical attention if any of these symptoms occur.

 

Make sure you get plenty of fluids. Adults should drink fluids with electrolytes such as Gatorade for adults, and children should get fluid replacement solutions. These drinks coupled with water will help restore the body’s hydration balance. For best results, drink about 2 to 4 ounces every half hour to an hour. Don’t drink fruit juice or sodas. These liquids don’t replace lost electrolytes.

 

If you have a mild case of food poisoning, it may respond well to rest and fever-reducing medications. If you have a severe case, your doctor may give you steroids to help with heart and muscle issues.

 

Food Poisoning Vs. Stomach Flu

 

If you are trying to determine if you have contagious gastroenteritis (a stomach bug) or just ate some bad food, you must think back about what you’ve done in the past few days. If you have been around someone in the past 2 weeks who was sick with a vomiting and/or diarrhea illness, then you most likely have what they had (a contagious stomach bug). If you haven’t been around anyone who has been sick (that you know of), but you ate a yogurt that looked funny, a turkey sandwich that was left on the counter all afternoon, restaurant food (rice, salad, dipping sauce, etc. etc.), then you might have non-contagious food poisoning.  If you got sick within 7 hours of eating the suspected food, and felt fine shortly thereafter, you probably have regular food poisoning and are not contagious. If it has been 24 hours or more since you ate the suspected food item than you probably have something contagious. It is usually very difficult to be sure which illness you have. So, if you are not sure, err on the side of caution and assume you are contagious. No matter what you think you have, be sure to call your doctor if you think you are seriously ill.”

“The Place of Division”

According to the ‘Hebrew (and others as well) Scriptures,’ Nimrod was a bold, strong, and boisterous King of Babylon. This man ‘Nimrod,’ is/was the Son of Cush, Son of Ham, and Son of Noah who was the son of Lamech, and son of Methuselah.

 

Albeit, Brother Nimrod was the fiercest and mightiest of warriors, he held a god-like tendency. He wanted men to bow down to him and not to “The Most High.” Have you ever wondered why prayer was removed from public schools and many public gatherings? Have you ever wondered why only certain religious holidays are observed while others are not in today society?

 

The meaning of his name is supposed to mean “Rebel” according to the Hebrew verb ‘marad.’

Adding an “n” before the “m” it becomes an infinitive construct, “Nimrod.” (See Kautzsch 1910: 137 2b, also BDB 1962: 597). The name Nimrod could have also been the derisive term of a type, a representative of a system that is or could have been described as a system that is epitomized in rebellion against the Creator, the One True God.

 

The Holy Bible (and other Holy Books as well) records the civilizations after “The Great Flood.” It has been said that a well-known tale of a man who fits a certain type as described by the Babylonians, the Assyrians, The Hittites, and the Sumerian’s as ‘Gilgamesh,’ aka, “Nimrod!”

The immigrant who sits atop the ivory, glass, and steel tower ruling over the land filled with immigrants refused the admission of ‘fresh immigrants’ into “The Land of Milk and Honey.” He has no need for the offerings of “The White House.” It’s his house alone that rules!

 

Now this man claims all of the fame that is due other men (and women). He claims the praise and humbled prayers due to ‘The All-Mighty” from men (and women) at all times.

The Wise Josephus said “Here is precisely what is found in the Gilgamesh epics. It was Gilgamesh who set up tyranny; he opposed “Yahweh” and did his utmost to get people to forsake “Him.”

 

Although Babylon was said to have reached its zenith under ‘Nebuchadnezzar’ in the 6th century, the kingdom was started by Nimrod. Modern day Iraq along with its ancient wall lines and canals was also known to have been one of Nimrod’s kingdoms.

The one who sits upon the throne of the “Nation of Immigrants” has put the Nation of Iraq on notice along with North Korea and Australia while locking the gates at the heartland’s border to African Countries of Islamic Faiths. The land filled with oil is and has been a major temptation for those who profess to rule over all – “The Power(s) That Be!”

The “Tower of Babel” is attributed to its builder, Nimrod. The structure was given major thought as it was no “Straw, Wood, or Brick House” type of building built by the ‘Three Little Pigs.’ The best way to understand the “Ziggurat” is to know that it was built by ancient Egyptians as an “Assyrian Mountaintop.” With a temple atop, the Ziggurat was a man-made structure intended as a place to worship the host of Heaven.

Before the Lord, Nimrod grew up to become a mighty warrior and hunter. There are many who believe this to be a good thing, a compliment to Nimrod. Well, it’s just the opposite.

 

As previously mentioned, the sons of Ham were ‘Cush;’ his siblings Mizraim,’ ‘Put,’ and ‘Canaan.’ After the flood, the land of “Shinar” was developed. The survivors after the flood became the citizens of Canaan, the ‘Canaanites,’ Mizram, the ‘Egyptians,’ and what most scholars consider “The Land of Shinar” to have been ‘Sumer,’ where Cush resided. The Babylonian Flood Story is told in the Eleventh Tablet of The Gilgamesh Epic with about two hundred lines of text on maybe twelve clay tablets that are inscribed in ‘Cuneiform Script.’

 

Cuneiform Script is one of the earliest writing systems in the world of ancient times. It was invented by the Sumerians of Mesopotamia. The distinguishing features are the wedge-shaped marks on clay tablets made of a blunt reed for a stylus. Its name simply means “wedge shaped.”

 

“Kish” was the first kingdom established after the Great Flood. The kingdom of Kish appears quite often on many clay tablets that have been discovered by archaeologists. Research shows that “Kingship” descended from the heavens to Kish after the Great Flood. The Hebrew name of “Cush,” which came a bit later, was moved to present-day Ethiopia when many migrations took place from “Mesopotamia” to other lands and places.

 

Except for the rulers, the laws of the Sumerians, was extremely binding on all who lived within. The rich and powerful rulers were a law unto themselves. In the Ancient Near East for more than three thousand years, this system was to influence other cultures which followed the Sumerian way of life. They were known as the ‘Accad,’ the ‘Babylonians,’ the ‘Assyrians,’ the ‘Persians,’ the ‘Greeks,’ and the ‘Romans.’ This nucleonic ruling system was founded, designed, and developed by Cush.

 

The Palace Library of “Ashurbanipal” in Nineveh yielded the discovery of the first clay tablets naming Nimrod among the ruins of the Biblical “Nebo.” Many other remains have been found since in a number of excavation sites as well. Its’ also been discovered that material of later dating and much older material was revealed on other tablets which consisted of numerous originally independent episodes that must have been current long before they were compiled and woven together.

Nimrod’s arrogance, ruthlessness, and depravity were a subjected and grave concern for the people of his kingdom of “Uruk.” The people were said to have complained to the “Great God Anu.” Anu instructed the “Goddess Aruru” to create another wild ox, a double of Gilgamesh. This action would challenge him and distract his mind from the warrior’s daughter and the nobleman’s spouse, whom he appeared to leave no peace or sanctity.

 

Does any of this sound familiar? History does have a tendency to repeat itself…no matter what time or dates have evolved. The epic of Gilgamesh contain some very profound and indecent sections. Pornography isn’t needed with this type of literature in the palace. It’s been said that Gilgamesh was a vile, filthy, and despicable man.

 

It was the old ancient historian Josephus who said of Nimrod:

 

“Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and contempt of God. He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it were through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny-seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence upon his own power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to be able to reach! And that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers!”

What Josephus says here is precisely what is found in the Gilgamesh epics. Gilgamesh set up tyranny; he opposed YHWH and did his utmost to get people to forsake Him. Two of the premiere commentators on the Bible in Hebrew have this to say about Genesis 10:9, Nimrod was mighty in hunting, and that in opposition to YHWH; not ‘before YHWH’ in the sense of according to the will and purpose of YHWH, still less,… in a simply superlative sense… The name itself, ‘Nimrod’ from marad, ‘We Will Revolt!’ These actions point to some violent resistance to God.

 

We immigrants (forcefully relocated or not), should all be a little grateful for the courage of the one or the few administrative individuals (Judges, Lawmakers, etc.) whom we are supposed to hold accountable; as they should be; who simply said NO!

 

Has this country (Black, White, Brown, and All Between) suddenly become a dictatorship at the bequest of the new administrator? This individual, as well as the cabinet appointees have been resented all across the country and around the globe. What do this major movement and opposition say to the people…the world?

Many European Rulers, Khazars, and Tzars have been admired and adorned with affection even though they were known human butchers and murderers. Are we to embrace them as brethren or loved ones?

 

Mesopotamia; the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the area between the rivers is almost entirely in Iraq, except for a small portion in the upper left corner that is in Syria, and some territory in Turkey.

Almost all sources, whether biblical or secular, have placed the land of Shinar somewhere in the southern half of Mesopotamia (southern Iraq). The traditional belief, therefore, has been that Babel, where the Tower was built, and Babylon, the infamous city, shared the same name and were located in the same place; claims that an ancient meaning of Babel/Babylon is “the place of canals”; he therefore puts forth his somewhat novel suggestion that Babel/Babylon also meant “the place of division” or even “the place of Peleg.”

A dangerous human being can sprout from virtually anywhere in the world. The power to deliver the death of a planned nature is cooperation from within. Religious, Racial, and/or difference of appearance have no bearing on denial of inclusion. This place, this country has its roots in immigration…an insurmountable amount of people have migrated to this continent and made claim to it regardless of the fact that indigenous human beings have already been established as such. That’s called invasion and occupation as opposed to immigration. Yet, the grand-fathered occupiers make laws and rules that affect the comings and goings of any and all who wish to cross the threshold of the land of immigrants. Targeted groups who are deemed undesirable by the ruler of the tower have no place here except if you look like him and/or are a member of the elitist club of people of mega-means. In many cases, immigrants reap what they sow…voting for someone who appears to look like you aren’t necessarily seeking to fulfill the desires and needs of those who blindly supported him and his agenda of “The New World Order!”

 

The traditional belief, therefore, has been that Babel, where the Tower was built, and Babylon, the infamous city, shared the same name and was located in the same place, ‘Iraq.’

Many verses in the Bible mention Babylon and could very well be quoted; that could refer to the kingdom as a whole and not just to the city itself. There is also the question of whether it is the city or the kingdom of Babylon that is meant in some biblical and other historical sense that “Babylon” refers to the kingdom, and not necessarily just to a city.

Shinar was named as a territory in its own right in the one account, but was considered as part of the Babylonian empire in the other account. Because the Hittite kingdom was located in the north, largely contained in what is western Turkey today (Hittite Period, 2006), the area of Shinar would have been right next door and would have been quite convenient for making a campaign.

 

Shinar was a land in the north of Mesopotamia in biblical times; a section of the Khabur triangle. The Tigris and Euphrates join at the bottom right corner to form one river, the Shatt al Arab that flows into the Persian Gulf (Iraq 2003).

 

However, the ruler of the northern continent or the Americas has posed a travel ban on immigrants from certain lands and territories. Many of whom are of an Islamic deity or belief. How does one determine who is or is not Islamic according to what one looks like? Religious groups around the world are of different hues, colors, ages, races, genders, etc. How do you know who is Hebrew, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, and so on? Maybe the ruler from atop the 58 Stories can tell the difference…

 

In reiteration, yes many verses mentioning Babylon could be quoted, that could refer to the kingdom as a whole and not just to the city itself. “That everything in the king’s house would be carried to Babylon, while Babylon refers to the kingdom, and not necessarily just to the city.” Again, not unlike the bible era ruler who ruled from his choice of towers or castles, this common-era egomaniac chooses to rule from New York as opposed to Washington D.C., as accustomed by his predecessors.

 

In any case, the story regarding the ‘Tower of Babel’ indicates an entire territory involved in the migration would have been eastward of Israel, whatever translation is preferred. Genesis 11:2 (KJV) says that Noah’s descendants migrated “from the east” to reach the plain in the land of Shinar. Translation of the phrase “Eastward” and “from the East” translated “from the East.” These translations all appear to indicate that the Ark and Babel were east-west of each other. The Tigris and Euphrates join at the bottom right corner to form one river, the Shatt al Arab that flows into the Persian Gulf (Iraq 2003).

Almost all sources, whether biblical or secular, have placed the land of Shinar somewhere in the southern half of Mesopotamia (southern Iraq) The traditional belief, therefore, has been that Babel, where the Tower was built, and Babylon, the infamous city, shared the same name and were located in the same place. Many history scholars and theologians claim that an ancient meaning of Babel/Babylon is “the place of canals,” “the place of division,” or even “the place of Peleg. Another historian says that after the work on the Tower was stopped; those who remained in Babylonia eventually finished the Tower, which became the center around which the city of Babylon was built.

This is Mesopotamia, the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The area between the rivers is almost entirely in Iraq, except for a small portion that is in Syria, and some territory in Turkey. Is this a wonder that the leader of the ‘Free World’ considers these countries “enemies of the state?”

 

The meaning of the name, “Babel,” is defined right in the Genesis passage as “confound” (Genesis 11:9 KJV), which, in turn, is defined in Webster’s dictionary as “confuse.” A clear and straightforward reading of this verse and application of the principles of solid hermeneutics do not leave room for any other meaning Quoting ‘Habermehl,’ the English translations of the Septuagint Scriptures do not use the word “Babel” at all, but simply translate the name of the place where the Tower was built as “Confusion.”

 

This author’s aim is to point out the similarities between the appointed leader’s decision making abilities and mental intent to that of the ancient Biblical Ruler known as ‘Nimrod’ who challenged ‘God.’ His ideology was to usurp ‘The Most High’ by persuading men, people to follow, trust, and believe in him and not ‘God!’  This despicable human being has persuaded many people to follow, trust, and believe in him only…and no one else! One major difference between the two individuals is their skin color. Nimrod is recorded as rich and Black while the current person residing in ‘The White House’ is rich and white.

Washington (CNN) Businessman Donald Trump continued his verbal attack against illegal immigrants on Wednesday, in an interview on CNN Tonight with Don Lemon.

 

He has stirred up controversy in recent days for claiming “rapists” and “killers” are migrating over the United States’ southern border. Univision and NBC Universal have cut ties with the businessman, refusing to air the “Miss Universe” pageant he partially owns as a result, and Macy’s announced Wednesday it was also discontinuing his clothing line.

On Wednesday, Trump, who is a Republican presidential candidate, told Lemon he was pulling his facts from a Fusion article.

Lemon replied that the press stories are about women being raped, but not about criminals coming across the border.

“Well, somebody’s doing the raping, Don! I mean somebody’s doing it! Who’s doing the raping? Who’s doing the raping?” he asked.

 

Don’t you think this question is obvious since it is he who has been charged with rape and statutory rape, tax evasion, and crimes against those he refused to pay as well as those he cheated out of tuition money for an education that never revealed itself?

Many people have different views of the definition of ‘immigrant.’ One must realize that while Black People (as slaves) were thought to be originally brought to the ‘America’s’ by white’s, that particular group cannot be classified as immigrant. This group of people did not come to these shores voluntarily but as captives. Now on the other hand, the Europeans, and their descendents came here voluntarily not unlike many other people from around the globe.

In the Bible, in First Chronicles, chapter 15, it is written that David brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord into Jerusalem.

“David and the elders of Israel and the commanders of units of a thousand went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of “Obed-Edom,” with rejoicing. …Now David was clothed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and as were the singers, and Kenaniah, who was in charge of the singing of the choirs. David also wore a linen ephod. So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouts, with the sounding of rams’ horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps.” (15:25-28)

“The Essence of Invasion and Annihilation – Gog, Magog, and Friends”

In reiteration to “The Eye of Cain” and in concurrence to many cited sources and scholars that have speculated, theorized, predicted, written, and believe in the impending annihilation of Israel, this latest insertion is added to the theory in the history of man-kind (and woman-kind).

The entire planet is caught up in this menagerie of violence, mass killing, greed, jealousy, accusations, lies, deceit, condemnation, and chaos. It seems the nations, countries, and people of this planet are suffering from selective amnesia. How soon (and not) we forget the history of mankind, i.e., “Shem, Ham, Japheth, Noah’s Ark, Sodom and Gomorra.”

In this world of multiple and implemented ill practiced divisive, seperative, man-made religions; speaking as a believer-descendent of the Hebrew Culture, “House of Judah” and Supporter of Homo-Sapien Kinship, why is it this particular group of people (Israel) are looked upon with such hatred? “Gog,” of the land of “Magog,” the chief prince of “Meshech” and “Tubal,” specifically illustrates this hatred.

The war at the end of the tribulation, known as Armageddon, is a world war. Revelation tells us that this battle will involve all nations. The war described in Ezekiel includes specific nations that invade Israel. Also, Armageddon is at the climax of the tribulation, while the war described in Ezekiel comes well before then. Ezekiel 38:1-7 gives 10 names as participants in the invasion of Israel that will follow the regathering of the Jews to their homeland. First mentioned, is the land of Magog.
The most common identity for Magog is in Central Asia. The Jewish historian Josephus said, “Magog founded the Magogians, called Scythians by the Greeks. Scythians were a nomadic tribe who inhabited the ancient territory from Central Asia across the southern part of ancient Russia.” Today this area is inhabited by the former Soviet Republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and possibly northern parts of Afghanistan. All of these nations that make up the land of Magog have one thing in common – Islam.

The ancient kingdom of Cush in Ezekiel’s time was the land just south of Egypt on the Nile River. Today this land is occupied by Sudan. Sudan is home to the National Islamic Front, is ruled by an Islamic military dictatorship, a strong supporter of Iraq, home to Osama bin Laden from 1991-1996, and harbors countless Islamic terrorist groups. Sudan would easily fit into the coalition as it is already close allies with Iran, trading military supplies for docking rights on the Red Sea shipping routes.

Ancient Put was the land just west of Egypt, or what is today Libya. Libya is another sponsor of terrorism, and openly refuses to recognize Israel’s right to even exist. When the coalition against Israel is formed, Libya won’t have to be asked twice to join.

“The Lost Tribes of Twelve and Yahveh the Father”

When ‘Messiah’ was first named by the angel and later given that name at His circumcision, a Greek name would have never been permitted. Jews were vitally concerned with pedigrees. According to Jewish biblical tradition, the name of the offspring was always given with the name of the father. It was completely unacceptable for a Jew to take a Gentile name.
Using ‘YAHshua’s’ true name brings glory to the name of YAHveh the Father.

YAHveh, the Holy One of Israel, became flesh and blood and dwelt on earth to bring salvation to Israel and all Gentiles later to be joined with her. In Hebrew, the word for salvation or saves is SHUA. That is why the angel told Joseph, “She will bear a Son; and you shall call ‘His’ name “Yahhushua/YahSHUA,” for it is He who will save His people from their sins”

THE REUNIFICATION OF EPHRAIM AND JUDAH

One of the important results of the end-time events that lead to the return of the Messiah is the reunification of the “lost tribes” of Israel/Ephraim with their brethren. “All of Israel” (the entire twelve tribes) cannot be saved unless they are all brought back into a unity (Echad). It is necessary for those of Israel who are “lost” among the nations (Ephraim, the “fullness of the gentiles”) to come back in, and only then can this happen. This is the point of the “mystery” of Romans 11:25.

According to Genesis 9:19 and the Table of Nations in Genesis 10, all mankind is descended from the three sons of Noah: Shem, Ham and Japheth. The descendants of Japheth, the youngest son, settled in Anatolia, modern Turkey, and from there moved into the Caucasus Mountains of Western Russia and from there settled Europe and Russia. They are the ancestors of the Caucasian peoples. Their main impact on Israel was through the Persians, the Greeks and the Romans.
Ham’s descendants became the various Black peoples who settled the African continent and parts of the Arabian Peninsula. His sons were Cush, whose descendants settled in Ethiopia, Mizraim, whose descendants settled in Egypt, Put, whose descendants settled in Libya, and Canaan, whose descendants settled in Palestine and founded the cities of Sidon, Tyre and Carthage and, among others, were the ancestors of the Phoenicians.

Collectively, in ancient times the descendants of Cush formed a large ethnic group and were the main populace of the Cushite Empire, which extended from present-day western Libya to Ethiopia and Nubia, south of Egypt, all of present-day Egypt, and the Arabian peninsula into the mountains of Turkey. They spoke a variety of languages and had skin pigmentation ranging from dark black to medium brown.

From the first time Christian children settle into Sunday school classrooms, an image of Jesus Christ is etched into their minds. In North America he is most often depicted as being taller than his disciples, lean, with long, flowing, light brown hair, fair skin and light-colored eyes. Familiar though this image may be, it is inherently flawed.

A person with these features and physical bearing would have looked very different from everyone else in the region where Jesus lived and ministered. Surely the authors of the Bible would have mentioned so stark a contrast.

On the contrary, according to the Gospel of Matthew, when Jesus was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane before the Crucifixion, Judas Iscariot had to indicate to the soldiers whom Jesus was because they could not tell him apart from his disciples. Further clouding the question of what Jesus looked like is the simple fact that nowhere in the New Testament is Jesus described, nor have any drawings of him ever been uncovered.
There is the additional problem of having neither a skeleton nor other bodily remains to probe for DNA. In the absence of evidence, our images of Jesus have been left to the imagination of artists.

Africa boasts one of the World’s Oldest Civilizations. It was called Nubia; during the time of ancient Egypt, and the People of Nubia or Kush were Black. “Black/White” is a term first used 800 years ago as a tool to divide the Descendants of Adam.

It has been estimated that from 25 to 28 distinct ethnic groups made up the population of the Khazar Qaganate, aside from the ethnic elite. In terms of caste or class, some evidence suggests that there was a distinction, whether racial or social is unclear, between “White Khazars” (Ak-Khazars) and “Black Khazars” (Qara-Khazars). The 10th century Muslim geographer al-Iakhri, claimed that the White Khazars were strikingly handsome with reddish hair, white skin, and blue eyes, while the Black Khazars were swarthy, verging on deep black, as if they were “some kind of Indian.”

Many Turkic nations had a similar (political, not racial) division between a “white” ruling warrior caste and a “Black” class of commoners; the consensus among mainstream scholars is that Istakhri was confused by the names given to the two groups. However, Khazars are generally described by early Arab sources as having a white complexion, blue eyes, and reddish hair. The name of the presumed founding Ashinà clan itself may reflect an etymology suggestive of a darkish colour. The distinction appears to have survived the collapse of the Khazarian empire. Later Russian chronicles, commenting on the role of the Khazars in the magyarization of Hungary, refer to them as “White Ugrian” and Magyars as “Black Ugrians”.

Since the Hebrew Bible makes a point of marking the Canaanites as peoples set apart from the Israelites, the extent of the distinction between the culture of the Canaanites and the Israelites is a matter of debate. It has been argued that the Israelites were themselves Canaanites, and that “historical Israel”, as distinct from “literary” or “Biblical Israel” was a subset of Canaanite culture. It is also known that Israelites and later the subdivision of Israelites known as the Judeans spoke Hebrew as their main language

The finite minds of men are inadequate to fully comprehend the plans and purposes of the “Infinite One.” To wise in their own conceit to search the scriptures with contrition of soul and earnest prayer for divine guidance, they have no shield from delusion. Satan stands ready to supply and deliver the heart’s desire of all who wish it. The plan of deception replaces the reality of truth.

 

Of the most successful agencies of the “Great Deceiver” are the divisive teachings and lying wonders of spiritualism. Disguised as an “Angel of Light,” he spreads his nets where least suspected. If only men would simply study the book of ‘God’ with earnest prayer, they might understand it; they would probably not be left to the darkness of receiving false doctrines…as they reject the truth, they fall prey to deception.

Many who have no real faith in God or in His word assent to some principles of truth and pass themselves off as Christians, are enabled to introduce their errors as scriptural doctrines.

Taking the position that it is of no consequence what men believe is one of Satan’s most successful deceptions. He knows the truth…he knows that the truth, received in the love of it, sanctifies the soul of the receiver; therefore he is constantly seeking to substitute false theories, fables, and another gospel.

 

From the beginning of man’s time on Earth, the servants of God have contended against false teachers, not merely as vicious men, but as inculcators of falsehoods that were (are) fatal to the soul.

The purposeful works of our great adversary is to confuse (the masses) minds so that they shall not discern the truth along with discord and division. Satan sees the Lord’s servants burdened because of the spiritual darkness of appetite or to some other form of self-gratification, and thus numbs their sensibilities so that they fail to hear the very things which they most need to learn.

Satan fully knows that all, whom he can lead to neglect prayer and the searching of the scriptures, will be overcome by his attacks. Therefore he invents every possible device to engross the mind in order to gain victory… Victory at all costs!”

 

“The servants of “Hell,” instead of following the truth, make it their business and religion to change the truth and seek some fault of character of error of faith in those whom they do not agree. They will put a false coloring upon the words and acts of those who love and obey the truth. In order to sustain erroneous doctrines or un-Christian-like, (un-Islam-like, un-Hebrew-like, un-Jewish-like, un-Buddha-like, un-Hindu-like, etc.,) practices, some will seize upon passages of scripture separated from the context, perhaps quoting half of a single verse as proof to their point of view.

With the “Cunning of The Serpent” they entrench themselves behind disconnected utterances construed to suit their carnal desires.

 

…Many will fully pervert The Word of God!”

 

This masterpiece…this successful accomplishment of Satan’s deceptions to keep the minds of men searching and conjecturing in regard to that which ‘God’ has not made known and which ‘He’ does not intend that we should understand.  And this is one of the reasons Lucifer lost his place in Heaven. He became dissatisfied because all the secrets of God’s purposes were not confided to him, and he entirely disregarded that which was revealed concerning his own work in the lofty position assigned to him. By arousing the same discontent in the angels under his command, he caused their fall from grace as well. He now (and continually) seeks to imbue the minds of men with the same spirit and to lead them also to disregard the direct commands of God.

 

The utter yet subtle and mischievous error is the fast spreading, wide-spreading, and possibly ubiquitous belief that Satan has no existence as a personal being; that the name is used in scripture merely to represent men’s evil thoughts and desires. Wordly wisdom teaches that prayer is not essential.

Men of science claim that there can be no real answer to prayer; that this would be a violation of law, a miracle, and those miracles have no existence. The universe, they say, is governed by fixed laws, and God Himself does nothing contrary to these laws.

The errors of popular theology have driven many a soul to skepticism. This is one object which Satan seeks to accomplish. There is nothing that he desires more than to destroy man’s confidence in ‘God’ and in ‘His Word’“The Word Of God!”

 

Satan stands at the head of the great army of doubters, and he works to the utmost of his power to beguile souls into his ranks. It has become fashionable to doubt.

 

Large classes of people look upon “The Word of God” with distrust. They are un-willing to obey its requirements and endeavor to overthrow its authority. They read the Bible and listen to its teachings as presented from the sacred desk, merely to find fault with the scriptures or the sermon. Many become infidels in order to justify or excuse themselves in neglect of duty. Others adopt skeptical principles from pride and indolence in order to distinguish themselves by accomplishing anything worthy of honor, which requires effort and self-denial. They aim to secure a reputation for superior wisdom by criticizing the Bible and just-thinking people.

Not only do they not realize that they are entangling themselves in the snare of the fowler, they feel that they must maintain their positions while openly expressing unbelief…that must be maintained. And with this, they have united with un-Godly intentions, closing the gates of paradise – denying them passage therein.

 

Neither wicked men nor devils can hinder “The Work Of God,” or shut-out ‘His’ presence from ‘His’ people. Satan can present a counterfeit so closely resembling the truth that it deceives those who are willing to be deceived.

The ‘Lord’ permits ‘His’ people to be subjected to the fiery ordeal of temptation, not because he takes pleasure in their distress and affliction, but because this process is essential to their final victory.

‘He’ could not, consistently with ‘His’ own glory; shield them from temptation; for the very object of the trial is to prepare them to resist all the allurements of evil.

 

Satan is well aware that the weakest soul who abides in ‘Christ’ is more than a match for the hosts of darkness – should he reveal himself, he would be met and resisted.

 

No woman, man, or child is safe for a day or an hour without prayer. Satan is an expert in quoting scripture, placing his own interpretations upon passages, by which he hopes to cause us to stumble.

It is certain that the devils have a profound knowledge of all things. No theologian can interpret the “Holy Scriptures” better than they can; no lawyer has a more detailed knowledge of testaments, contracts, and actions; no physician of philosopher can better understand the virtues of the heavens, the stars, birds, fishes, trees, herbs, metals, and stones.

Satan possesses great courage, incredible cunning, superhuman wisdom, the most acute penetration, consummate prudence, an incomparable skill in veiling the most pernicious artifices under a specious disguise, and a malicious and infinite hatred toward the human race, implacable and incurable!”

We should all study the (Bible, Qur’an, The Torah, E. G. White, etc.) ‘Holy Books’ with humility of heart and never losing sight of our dependence upon ‘God.’

 

While we must constantly guard against the devices of Satan, we should pray in faith continually:

 

“Lead Us Not Into Temptation!”

 

Being “The First People” we have been placed in a position, a time, and a place of “Infinite Proportions” that only ‘GOD’ can undo!

 

We have survived every assault that man has afflicted upon us and survived. We have survived this current ‘MAAFA’ as we (a diversity of good people, God-Loving People) will survive this atrocity that is afflicted upon us today, tomorrow, and into infinity…with “The Grace of God!”

In an attempt to introduce evidence that contradicts many who have claims to being the first at inventing, creating, and the illusion of being the first at anything, while Blacks have been displayed or described at doing absolutely nothing at all. This premise encourages me to share some insight into the truth of whom it is that was actually first.

This project series will be presented in part, in order for those of us who haven’t a clue as to the importance of our people’s contributions in and to the United States as well as what we have introduced throughout the Whole World Wide!

 

There are many Black innovators who have not been included in the listing(s) due to lack of resource information.

 

Examples include the invention of ‘The Clock’ by Benjamin Banneker and the “Potato Chip” by George Crum and the first Black Woman Astronaut, Mae C. Jemison and Garrett A Morgan’s invention, the ‘Traffic Signal!

PART ONE:

 

“We all have our heroes and sheroes. For people who have been systematically important to remember and celebrate those who have won personal victories against the forces arrayed against them. This remembrance can take different forms. One is the folk tale. From Africa came tales of an animal – spider or rabbit – who, though cunning, triumphed over stronger predatory and dangerous animals. But apparent meekness was not the only strategy. Black people also celebrated, as openly as they dared the bold rebel who broke the bonds. Black folklore is a way of remembering in order to struggle against oppression and in the interest of building a community.

 

For many African Americans the first person to achieve a goal and gain recognition is ever so important as a symbol of hope and a beacon for the future. These woman and men become living proof that it is possible to crack what seems to be a monolithic system of oppression. P. B. S. Pinchback and L. Douglas Wilder are shining examples of men who joined the ranks of our heroes because they were the first to do what had never been done before by Black Americans. Pinchback was the first Black State Governor and held the appointed position in Louisiana from December 1872 to January 1873. More than a century would pass before Wilder became the first Black elected governor for the state of Virginia in 1990. Black Firsts records and celebrates the pioneers who displayed and continue to display great courage and perseverance in the face of odds that would discourage lesser souls.

 

Not all of the trailblazers encountered in Black Firsts set out to challenge the system directly. Many used their guile and courage to build and challenge the system directly. Many used their guile and courage to build and sustain the Black Community. And as a community, African Americans, no matter how oppressed, have always nurtured positive values that are then passed on to subsequent generations. Black Firsts records the names of African American women and men known to history who first formed the churches and built the schools and performed a myriad of other tasks without which Black Folks as a people could not have survived. In doing this, the book offers a sense of the richness of Black History and will perhaps inspire the ignorant of the forgetful to explore the past to gain insight for the present and strength for the future.”

Architecture:

1908 – Vertner W. Tandy, Sr., (1885-1949) was the first Black American architect registered in New York State. He designed Villa LeWaro, on the Hudson River, the mansion of hair care magnate Madame C. J. Walker.

Tandy also known for founding Alpha Phi fraternity at Cornell University.

1953 – Paul Revere Williams (1894-1980), was the first Black Architect to become a fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Certified in California in 1915, he designed homes and buildings for Hollywood luminaries. In addition to designing more than three thousand homes, ranging in value from ten thousand to six hundred thousand dollars, Williams served as associate architect for the fifty-million dollar Los Angeles International Airport.

 

1954 – Norma Merrick Sklarek (1928) was the first Black Woman registered architect. Registered in New York State and later in California (1962), she was also the first Black Woman fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1980.”

In an attempt to introduce evidence that contradicts many who have claims to being the first at inventing, creating, and the illusion of being the first at anything, while Blacks have been displayed or described at doing absolutely nothing at all. This premise encourages me to share some insight into the truth of who it is that was actually first.

PART TWO:

 

Cartoons:

1910-George Herriman (1880-1944) was “The first Black” to achieve fame as a syndicated cartoonist. On July 26, 1910, the prototype of ‘Ignatz Mouse’ hit the prototype of ‘Krazy Kat’ with a brick. The strip ‘Krazy Kat’ was extremely popular in the 1920’s, especially with intellectuals, and continued with somewhat diminished success until July 25, 1944. Herriman was born in New Orleans in a family classified as Black, and the family moved to Los Angeles to escape racial labeling. Some of his friends called him “The Greek” but he never openly divulged his background.

 

1933-Elmer Simms Campbell (1906-1971) was “The First Black Cartoonist” to work for national publications. The St. Louis-born artist contributed cartoons and other art work to ‘Esquire,’ ‘Cosmopolitan,’ ‘Redbook,’ ‘The New Yorker,’ ‘Opportunity,’ and ‘Syndicated Features’ in 145 newspapers – (he was in nearly every issue from 1933 to 1958). Campbell created the character “Esky,” the pop-eyed mascot who appeared on the cover of ‘Esquire.’

 

1964-Morrie (Morris) Turner (1923), cartoonist and educator, created “Wee-Pals,” “The First Integrated Comic Strip in the World.” Influenced by Charles Schultz’s “Peanuts” and inspired by ‘Brother Dick Gregory.’ “Wee-Pals” became nationally syndicated and appeared in all of the large daily and Sunday comics. “Nippie,” the main character in “Wee-Pals” is named for the comedian ‘Nipsey Russell.’

 

1991-Barbara Brandon (1958) became “The First Black Woman Cartoonist” nationally syndicated in the white press. Her comic strip, “Where I’m Coming From,” appeared in the Detroit Free Press, and was acquired by Universal Press Syndicate in 1991. Brandon was born in Brooklyn, New York, and her father, Brumsic Brandon, Jr., was creator of the “Luther” comic strip which first appeared in the late 1960’s.

 

Circus:

1966-“The First Black Showgirl” with ‘Ringling Brothers Circus’ was ‘Toni Williams’ (1943) of Reading, Pennsylvania. Since then she has formed a trapeze act on her own.

 

1977-Bernice Collins (1957) was “The First Black Woman Clown with ‘Ringling Brothers.” The Kansas City native decided to become a clown when she was fourteen years old.

PART THREE:

 

Dance:

1845-William Henry Lane (c.1825-52), “Master Juba,” was “The First Black Dance Star.” He took his stage name from the ‘African’ dance, the ‘Juba.’ In 1845, Lane won the title “King of All Dancers” after three challenge contests. He toured with three white minstrels, receiving top billing, and garnered acclaim for his 1848 performance in London. Lane died in 1852, without ever returning to the United States.

 

1923-In October, 1923, “Running Wild” was “The First Black Show” to introduce the ‘Charleston’ to non-Black audiences. After its appropriation by a white show in 1926, the dance achieved a world-wide popularity second only to the Black inspired ‘Tango,’ which came to Europe and America from Argentina. A third Black dance to achieve wide success in the 1920’s was the “Black Bottom,” which reached in “Dinah” at ‘Harlem’s Lafayette Theater’ in 1924. Both the Charleston and the Black Bottom were theatrical adaptations of dances known to Blacks in the South for a decade of more.

 

1932-Buddy (Clarence) Bradley was “The First Black to Choreograph a Show of White Dancers.” He was hired to prepare the London production of “Evergreen” for which he was in charge of sixty-four dancers. Bradley received full-credit in the program. His career from this time on was mainly in Europe, where he was an important figure in popular dance.

 

Hemsley Winfield (1906-1934) was “The First Black Dancer” to be involved in ballet. He choreographed and performed with his own company in the ‘Metropolitan Opera’s’ production of ‘Louis Gruenberg’s’ “The Emperor Jones.”

This was a one-time exception to the rules – management did not list the dancers in the program. The next Black dancer did not appear with the company until 1951. Winfield’s mother was a playwright, and he made his debut in one of her plays, “Wade In The Water” (1926). He became a dancer and a pioneer in Black concert dance, organizing the ‘Negro Art Theater Dance Group.’ This group gave its first concert on April 29, 1931, and appeared in ‘Hall Johnson’s’ “Run Little Chillun” in 1933.

 

1951-Janet Collins (1923-) was “The First Black “Prima Ballerina”” at the ‘Metropolitan Opera Company,’ a position that she held for three years. She made her debut in “Aida.” Collins was born in New Orleans on March 2, 1923, and her family later settled in Los Angeles. A graduate of Los Angeles City College and Arts Center School, Collins is known for her choreography and her dance instruction.

 

1958-“The First Black Dancer” in the country to become a member of a classical ballet company, the New York City Ballet, was ‘Arthur Mitchell’ (1934-). Born in New York City, Mitchell studied at the city’s High School of Performing Arts and at the School of American Ballet. He founded the “Dance Theatre of Harlem” as a school of dance – especially classical ballet for children, regardless of race. The first Black Classical Ballet Company in the United States, it made its debut at the “Guggenheim Museum of Art in York City.” In 1988 the company became the first Black cultural group to tour the ‘Soviet Union’ under the renewed cultural exchange program.

 

1963-Katherine Dunham (1910-) was the “First Black Choreographer” to work at the ‘Metropolitan Opera House.’ A dancer, choreographer, school founder, and anthropologist, she was born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois and graduated from the University of Chicago and Northwestern University. Dunham incorporated her training in anthropology and her study of ‘African and West Indian Dances’ into her own techniques and dance instruction.

 

1984-The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater was the “First Black Modern Dance Troupe” to perform in the ‘Metropolitan Opera House.’ Founded in 1958 by ‘Alvin Ailey’ (1931-89), the troupe has performed before more than an estimated fifteen million people throughout the world. Ailey’s best known work, “Revelations,” based on his childhood experiences in Black Baptist Churches, was created in 1961. The dancer and choreographer was born in Rogers, Texas.

 

Dramatists:

 

1970-Maya Angelou (Marguerite Johnson, 1928), actress, dancer, and writer, was “The First Black Woman to have an ‘Original Screenplay'” produced, “Georgia, Georgia,” which she directed. Angelou was also “The First Black Woman to Have a Non-Fiction Work on the Best-Seller List.” Her autobiographical “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” (1970) evoked images of a ‘Black Girl’s Childhood’ in the South, and was nominated for a 1970 National Book Award and aired as a television movie in 1979. An artist of wide-ranging talents, she was nominated for a ‘Tony Award’ for acting and a ‘Pulitzer Prize’ for poetry.

 

Charles Gardone (1925-), playwright, was “The First Black Dramatist” to win the ‘Pulitzer Prize’ for drama, for the play “No Place To Be Somebody.”

1949 – Daniel Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong (1900-1971), jazz trumpeter, was “The First Black” to preside over the ‘New Orleans Mardi Gras.’ Born in New Orleans, he learned to play the coronet and read music while in “The Negro Waifs Home for Boys.” Armstrong moved to Chicago and became one of the most influential jazz artists. A superb showman, he was known for his gravelly, growling vocal style. He acquired the nickname “Satchmo” in 1932 from an editor of “The Melody Maker.”

 

1988-The First National Black Arts Festival in the United States held in Atlanta.

 

FILM:

 

1902-“The First appearance of Blacks in film” came in “Off To Bloomingdale Asylum.” The slapstick comedy was made in France, and produced by George Melies. The Black characters were probably played by white actors.

 

1905-“The Wooing and Wedding of a Coon” is the earliest known American-made film with an “All-Black Cast.” A derogatory one-reeler, the film presented undisguised mockery of a Black couple.

 

1914-Sam Lucas (Samuel Milady, 1840-1916) was “The First Black” to play the title role in “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” on film. He had been “The First Black Man” to play Uncle Tom on stage in 1878. Born in Washington, Ohio, Lucas performed with major minstrel troupes, wrote one of the most popular minstrel songs of the 1870’s (Carve dat Possum) appeared in vaudeville, and starred in musical comedies, including “A Trip to Coontown” (1898). He is also known as “The First Black Composer of Popular Ballads.”

 

1915-Madame Sul-Te-Wan (1873-1959) was “The First Black American” to be hired by a major movie producer on a continuing basis. D. W. Griffith hired her after she worked on “Birth of a Nation.”

 

1926-Stepin Fetchit (Lincoln Theodore Monroe Andrew Perry, 1902-1985) and ‘Carolynne Snowden’ played in “The First On-Screen Black Romance” in the movie, “In Old Kentucky.” Fetchit, an actor and comedian, was to appear in films with stars like ‘Will Rogers’ and ‘Shirley Temple.’ He appeared in films in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The ‘Key West, Florida,’ native took his stage name from a race horse on which he had bet in Oklahoma, before he left for Hollywood in the 1920’s.

 

“The First Black Sound Film” was “Melancholy Dame,” a comedy two-reeler, starring ‘Evelyn Preer,’ ‘Roberta Hyson,’ ‘Edward Thompson,’ and ‘Spencer Williams’ of “Amos and Andy’ fame.

 

1929-“The First two full-length films with ‘all-Black’ casts” were “Hearts in Dixie,” starring ‘Daniel Haynes,’ ‘Nina Mae McKinney,’ and ‘Victoria Spivey;’ and “Hallelujah,” starring ‘Clarence Muse,’ ‘Stepin Fetchit,’ and ‘Mildred Washington.’ “Hearts in Dixie” was also  “The First Black-Oriented All-Talking, All-Singing film from a major company.

 

1940-Hatttie McDaniel (1895-1952), singer, vaudeville performer, and actress, was “The First Black To Win An Oscar.” She was named the best supporting actress for her portrayal of ‘Mammy’ in “Gone With The Wind.” McDaniel made her radio debut in 1915, and is said to be the “First Black America Woman To Sing On Radio.” Often called “Hi-Hat Hattie,” she was born in Wichita, Kansas, and moved to Hollywood in 1931. She made her movie debut in “The Golden West” in 1932, and appeared in more than three hundred films during the next two decades. Her career was built on the “Mammy” image, a role she played with dignity. In 1947, she continued the role in “Beulah” on the radio.

 

1944-The first United States Army Training film favorably depicting Blacks was made. It was designed to introduce Black and White Soldiers to the contributions of Black in military history. Frank Capra (the producer), among those who created “The Negro Soldier.”

 

1955-Dorothy Dandridge (1922-1965) was “The First Black Woman Nominated For An Oscar” in a leading role for her portrayal of ‘Carmen’ in “Carmen Jones,” a role she acted while someone else sang for her.

She was born on November 9, 1922, in Cleveland, and later moved to Los Angeles From 1937 to 1964, Dandridge appeared in a number of films, often typecast in the stereotypical roles commonly given to Black actresses. In 1951 she was “The First Black” to perform in ‘The Empire Room’ of New York’s Waldorf Astoria. “Island In The Sun,” a 1957 film in which she appeared opposite white actor ‘John Justin,’ marked the first time the theme of interracial love was explored in movies. ‘Harry Belafonte’ and ‘Joan Fontaine were also paired in this film. Dandridge returned to night club performances when her film career ended.

 

1958-“The First Black Male Nominated For An Academy Award For Best Actor was ‘Sidney Poitier'” (1924-) for his performance in “The Defiant Ones.” He was born on February 20, 1924, in Miami, and later moved to the Bahamas with his family. At age fifteen, Poitier returned to Miami, then went to New York City. He made his Hollywood debut in 1950 and won an Oscar for best actor in the film “Lillies of The Field” in 1963, becoming “The First Black” to win an Oscar for a starring role. In 1967 Poitier became “The First Black” to have his hand and foot prints placed in front of ‘Grauman’s Chinese Theater.’

 

1971-Richard Roundtree (1942-) became “The First Black Private Detective and Superhero” in a motion picture role in the trend-setting movie, “Shaft.”

Born in New Rochelle, New York, he attended Southern Illinois University on a football scholarship, but became interested in acting in a campus theater. In 1967 he was a model for the “Ebony Fashion Fair” and later advertised hair care products for Black Men in “Ebony Magazine.” After ‘Bill Cosby’ advised him to study dramatic arts in New York, Roundtree joined the “Negro Ensemble Company” and appeared in three off their productions.

 

1989-Euzham Palcy was “The First Black Woman Director” of a full-length film, “A Dry White Season,” for a major United States studio. Starring ‘Donald Sutherland’ and ‘Susan Sarandon,’ the film deals with apartheid in South Africa. Palcy was born in ‘Martinique.’

 

1992-Julie Dash (1952-) became “The First Black Woman Writer and Director” to have a feature-length film in national distribution. The film, “Daughters of The Dust,” is the story of one day in the lives of a Black Family living in “Ibo Island, South Carolina.”

 

John Singleton was “The First Black Film Director Nominated For An Academy Award” for the box office hit “Boys N The Hood,” starring rap artist ‘Ice Cube,’ ‘Cuba Gooding, Jr.,’ ‘Laurence Fishburne,’ and ‘Morris Chestnut.’

Although the film presents an anti-drug and anti-violent message, is sparked violence when it opened in several cities in the United States on July 12,1991.

 

Woody Strode, known for his groundbreaking roles in films, was “The First Black Inducted Into The Walk of Western Stars” at a ceremony held at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. Strode acted in such films as “Sergeant Rutledge,” “Posse,” and “The Ten Commandments,” with ‘Charleton Heston.’

‘Revolution, Chews, the Order of Dracul, Kelpians and Rosicrucians’

~ “The Battle of Germantown” occurred at the Cliveden Manor. “It was also the country home of Pa. Chief Justice Benjamin Chew. On October 4, 1777, a British regiment occupied Cliveden and defended it from full assaults by the Colonials. Over 70 soldiers died on these grounds. Although it was an American defeat, Washington’s bold strategy helped to win French aid for the cause of independence.” – “The First Protest Against Slavery was here in 1688, at the home of Tunes Kunders, an eloquent protest was written by a group of German Quakers. Signed by Pastorius and three others, it preceded by 92 years Pennsylvania’s passage of the nation’s first state abolition law.” ~

 

What began as a summer retreat, to a colonial landmark, became the site of a viciously nasty war, “The Battle of Germantown.’ Many have wondered if this was an accident in history.

 

Cliveden Manor is a story of a colonial family, the servants, and its slaves.

 

Before William Penn and the Mayflower, the Native Americans lived on the land now known as the United States of America. Here in the northwest, the Philadelphia-Germantown area is where the Quakers settled to farm and establish businesses. They were mostly of German descent, hence the name Germantown.

This area was also a haven for runaway slaves. “The Underground Railroad” ran through this region of the country as well. There existed a number of “Safe-Houses” for escaped African-American Slaves (not known then as African Americans) such as, The Mennonite Meeting House and the Johnson House. The route to freedom for Black people often led to Canada, although a number of African descendants decided to settle in Germantown where they felt safe from persecution.

 

During Rosenkreuz’s lifetime, the Order was said to consist of no more than eight members, each a doctor and a sworn bachelor. Each member undertook an oath to heal the sick without payment, to maintain a secret fellowship, and to find a replacement for himself before he died. Three such generations had supposedly passed between c.1500 and c.1600, a time when scientific, philosophical and religious freedom had grown so that the public might benefit from the Rosicrucians’ knowledge, so that they were now seeking good men.

The Fama Fraternitatis presented the legend of a German doctor and mystic philosopher referred to as “Frater C.R.C.” (It’s identified later in a third manifesto as Christian Rosenkreuz, or “Rose-cross”). The year 1378 is presented as being the birth year of “Our Christian Father”, and it is stated that he lived 106 years. After studying in the Middle East under various masters, possibly adhering to Sufism, he was unable to spread the knowledge he had acquired to any prominent European figures. Instead, he gathered a small circle of friends/disciples and founded the Rosicrucian Order (this can be deduced to have occurred around 1407).

Rosicrucianism is a philosophical secret society said to have been founded in late medieval Germany by Christian Rosenkreuz. It holds a doctrine or theology “built on esoteric truths of the ancient past”, which “concealed from the average man, provide insight into nature, the physical universe and the spiritual realm.” Rosicrucianism is symbolized by the Rosy Cross or Rose Cross.

Between 1607 and 1616, two anonymous manifestos were published, first in Germany and later throughout Europe. These were the Fama Fraternitatis RC (The Fame of the Brotherhood of RC) and the Confessio Fraternitatis (The Confession of the Brotherhood of RC). The influence of these documents, presenting a “most laudable Order” of mystic-philosopher-doctors and promoting a “Universal Reformation of Mankind”, gave rise to an enthusiasm called by its historian Dame Frances Yates the “Rosicrucian Enlightenment”.

Rosicrucian manifestos opposed Roman Catholicism and its preference for dogma over empiricism, similar to texts authored by the Protestant Reformer Martin Luther. They traced their philosophy and science to the Moors, asserting that it had been kept secret for 120 years until the intellectual climate might receive it.

Early seventeenth-century occult philosophers such as Michael Maier, Robert Fludd and Thomas Vaughan interested themselves in the Rosicrucian world view. According to historian David Stevenson it was also influential to Freemasonry as it was emerging in Scotland. In later centuries, many esoteric societies have claimed to derive their doctrines, in whole or in part, from the original Rosicrucians. Several modern societies have been formed for the study of Rosicrucianism and allied subjects.

I was there when Captain Willis Samuel and National Forestry Service Ranger Commander Gerald Glenn confronted and eradicated the monster beast in the park. I didn’t like Glenn very much, although I admired him. He was damn good at what he did. It was his woman that I liked…loved and wanted.

 

Yeah, she was something else. Genailia put the whammy on me at the zoo. She definitely whipped my ass in that booth. But man, just to get the opportunity to be near her, to feel her voluptuously warm and supple body and that magnificent ass close to mine…was worth it. I guess I really shouldn’t have grinded on her ass though. I thought she might like it. I was wrong. I’m still searching for a way to apologize. They’re somewhere up in the Yukon or Alaska nowadays. I do hope that she gets back this way.

 

I wasn’t happy with the hospital bills either.

 

The ‘Dungeon Queen’ case hasn’t come to trial yet. And the Fairmount Park Rapist case was never solved – it’s still wide open, soon to become a cold case.

There’s been some talk around town and throughout the buildings downtown of something else. Rather than the beast, although that story will remain on many lips for a long, long, time; another frightful occurrence screams for resolve. Apparently, ‘The Wissahickon Kelpius Society’ is being looked at. There appears to be some sort of mystery surrounding missing kids and some dark robed monks…of course I had to twist a few wrists and ring a couple of ears in order to get the case. Albeit, my curiosity abounds with the want of knowledge about these characters and the missing kids, I wanted to be paid for the research and story as well.

 

Paying close attention to the ‘scuttle-butt,’ gossip, and rumors about, I remember hearing something about an occultist and his group back in history class. It was something about George Washington and a mystic back in the 16th or 17th century. It was during, I think, the French-American and British war of the colonies. The old mansions in Germantown reflect upon the general’s visit along with the French leader, Lafayette.

The mansions along ‘The Great Road’ held a complete and authenticated history of events from back then.

What I do know up to this point is what has been said, stored, and recorded:

The peak of the “Rosicrucianism furor” was reached when two mysterious posters appeared on the walls of Paris in 1622 within a few days of each other. The first said “We, the Deputies of the Higher College of the Rose-Croix, do make our stay, visibly and invisibly, in this city (currently Philadelphia)”, and the second ended with the words “The thoughts attached to the real desire of the seeker will lead us to him and him to us.”

 

The legendary first manifesto, Fama Fraternitatis Rosae Crucis, (1614) inspired the works of Michael Maier (1568–1622) of Germany; Robert Fludd (1574–1637) and Elias Ashmole (1617–1692) of England; Teophilus Schweighardt Constantiens, Gotthardus Arthusius, Julius Sperber, Henricus Madathanus, Gabriel Naudé, Thomas Vaughan and others. In Elias Ashmole’s Theatrum Chimicum britannicum (1650) he defends the Rosicrucians. Some later works impacting Rosicrucianism were the Opus magocabalisticum et theosophicum by George von Welling (1719)–of alchemical and paracelsian inspiration—and the Aureum Vellus order Goldenes Vliess by Hermann Fictuld in 1749.

The great-great grandfather of Chief Justice Benjamin Chew (1772-1810), John Chew arrived in Virginia from England in 1622. The Chew family and the Penn Family were friends and business associates. The protégé of Penn, Benjamin Chew was legal counsel to the Penns’ and eventually family tied by way of marriage of Chew and Penn offspring. The two families also had ties with other prominent families in Pennsylvania and other colonial settlement areas.

 

It took Chief Justice Chew four years to complete construction of the Cliveden (1763-1767). The house was named after a mansion that Chew admired. The Cliveden was specifically designed to become a summer retreat from the home in the city, Philadelphia, six miles away.

Michael Maier was appointed Pfalzgraf (Count Palatine) by Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Hungary and King of Bohemia. He also was one of the most prominent defenders of the Rosicrucians, clearly transmitting details about the “Brothers of the Rose Cross” in his writings. Maier made the firm statement that the Brothers of R.C. exist to advance inspired arts and sciences, including alchemy. Researchers of Maier’s writings point out that he never claimed to have produced gold, nor did Heinrich Khunrath or any of the other ′Rosicrucianists′. Their writings point toward a symbolic and spiritual alchemy, rather than an operative one. In a combination of direct and veiled styles, these writings conveyed the nine stages of the involutive-evolutive transmutation of the threefold body of the human being, the threefold soul and the threefold spirit, among others esoteric knowledge related to the “Path of Initiation”.

 

In his 1618 pamphlet, Pia et Utilissima Admonitio de Fratribus Rosae Crucis, Henrichus Neuhusius wrote that the Rosicrucians departed for the east due to European instability caused by the start of the Thirty Years’ War. In 1710, Sigmund Richter, founder of the secret society of the Golden and Rosy Cross, also suggested the Rosicrucians had migrated eastward. In the first half of the 20th century, René Guénon, a researcher of the occult, presented this same idea in some of his works. An eminent author of the 19th century, Arthur Edward Waite, presented arguments contradicting this idea. It was in this fertile field of discourse that many Rosicrucian societies arose. The literary works of the 16th and 17th centuries were full of enigmatic passages containing references to the Rose Cross.

 

“The Revolutionary War” has many chapter levels throughout for the fight for independence from England. The “Battle of Germantown” was a bitter defeat for the American army. The Chews reportedly were not at the house during the battle.

 

Mr. Chew was in exile during the battle, after an arrest warrant was issued. Even though he lived in America, he was British. His loyalties to America were called to question.

 

The “Mischianza” was held at the Walnut Grove, May 18th, 1778, honoring the farewell of General Sir William Howe. He was scheduled to return to London, England. Two of the Chew girls were escorted by Brits to the Ball. The ‘Mischianza’ was a festive occasion with a mock tournament of medieval knights, their squires, and pages; in jousting events, dancing, colorful fireworks displays, and an elaborate banquet.

 

‘Blair McClenachan’ (owned the mansion thru 1779-1797), lived in Philadelphia during the war, he made most of his fortune by outfitting privateers. This man also had political aspirations. Mr. McClenachan held republican sympathies with France while serving the democratic society in Philadelphia. Like Chew, he also used Cliveden as a summer retreat. While he and his family resided at the Cliveden, McClenachan suffered economic reverses. He sold off all his land investments, Cliveden being the last property to go. However, before that he entertained some prominent individuals during his tenure at Cliveden. The English translator of the “Marquis de Chastellux” was one such visitor; General Washington was another.

 

The war began to change its’ tide in favor of the Americans by late spring, 17178. Mr. Chews’ exile-imprisonment came to an end.

 

The ‘Civil War,’ ‘Slavery,’ ‘The Emancipation Proclamation’ – the ring of freedom for all Black People and People of Color, leaps into mind with a powerful explosion of pride and passion. The painting, “Storming the Chew House,” also promotes a vivid glance of history.

 

This “College of Invisibles,” the idea of such an order, exemplified by the network of astronomers, professors, mathematicians, and natural philosophers in 16th-century Europe promoted by such men as Johannes Kepler, Georg Joachim Rheticus, John Dee and Tycho Brahe, gave rise to the Invisible College. This was the precursor to the Royal Society founded in 1660. It was constituted by a group of scientists who began to hold regular meetings to share and develop knowledge acquired by experimental investigation. Among these were Robert Boyle, who wrote: “the cornerstones of the Invisible (or as they term themselves the Philosophical) College, do now and then honour me with their company…”; John Wilkins and John Wallis, who described those meetings in the following terms: “About the year 1645, while I lived in London (at a time when, by our civil wars, academical studies were much interrupted in both our Universities), … I had the opportunity of being acquainted with divers worthy persons, inquisitive natural philosophy, and other parts of human learning; and particularly of what hath been called the New Philosophy or Experimental Philosophy. We did by agreements, divers of us, meet weekly in London on a certain day and hour, under a certain penalty, and a weekly contribution for the charge of experiments, with certain rules agreed amongst us, to treat and discourse of such affairs.

 

According to Jean Pierre Bayard, two Rosicrucian-inspired Masonic rites emerged toward the end of 18th century, the Rectified Scottish Rite, widespread in Central Europe where there was a strong presence of the “Golden and Rosy Cross”, and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, first practiced in France, in which the 18th degree is called Knight of the Rose Croix.

 

The change from “operative” to “speculative” Masonry occurred between the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 18th century. Two of the earliest speculative Masons for whom a record of initiation exists were Sir Robert Moray and Elias Ashmole. Robert Vanloo states that earlier 17th century Rosicrucianism had a considerable influence on Anglo-Saxon Masonry. Hans Schick sees in the works of Comenius (1592–1670) the ideal of the newly born English Masonry before the foundation of the Grand Lodge in 1717. Comenius was in England during 1641.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, various groups styled themselves Rosicrucian. The diverse groups who link themselves to a “Rosicrucian Tradition” can be divided into three categories: Esoteric Christian Rosicrucian groups, which profess Christ; Masonic Rosicrucian groups such as Societas Rosicruciana; and initiatory groups such as the Golden Dawn and the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis (AMORC).

 

According to Masonic writers, the Order of the Rose Cross is expounded in a major Christian literary work that molded the subsequent spiritual views of the western civilization, The Divine Comedy (ca. 1308–1321) by Dante Alighieri.

 

‘Philadelphia was then the capital of Pennsylvania!’

 

Philadelphia was a bustling town. Everything came out of and through the city of “Brotherly-Love,” such as, mail, business transactions, shipping, etc.

 

The ‘Yellow Plague’ drove the Chews to reside full-time in the sleepy rural farming community.

 

The Chews were among several wealthy families in the region. Not only was Ben Chew a protégé of Penn, he was a prominent Philadelphia lawyer-jurist and served as a representative of the three lower counties of Delaware, Maryland, and Connecticut. Later, his service led to a political career.

 

With the “Great-Road” (Germantown Avenue), the view of the mansion was majestic. Its’ majestic stance was not obstructed by tall trees and shrubbery, as it stood atop a hill, basically, alone in those days. The year 1777 marked the ‘Battle of Germantown’ between British and American troops. British Commander Colonel Thomas Musgrave, head of the British regiment, quartered in the house of the Chews, while his troops bivouacked behind the orchards of the Cliveden. The name Dracula was the patronym (Drăculea) of the descendants of Vlad II of Wallachia, who took the name “Dracul” after being invested in the Order of the Dragon in 1431. In the Romanian language, the word dracul (Romanian drac “dragon” + -ul “the”) can mean either “the dragon” or, especially in the present day, “the devil”.

 

Bram Stoker’s fictional Dracula attracted popular attention. During his main reign (1456–1462), “Vlad the Impaler” is said to have killed from 40,000 to 100,000 European civilians (political rivals, criminals, and anyone he considered “useless to humanity”), mainly by impaling. The sources depicting these events are records by Saxon settlers in neighbouring Transylvania, who had frequent clashes with Vlad III. Vlad III is revered as a folk hero by Romanians for driving off the invading Ottoman Turks, of which his impaled victims are said to have included as many as 100,000.

 

Vlad the Impaler; Historically, the name “Dracula” is derived from a Chivalric order called the Order of the Dragon, founded by Sigismund of Luxembourg (then king of Hungary) to uphold Christianity and defend the Empire against the Ottoman Turks. Vlad II Dracul, father of Vlad III, was admitted to the order around 1431, after which Vlad II wore the emblem of the order and later, as ruler of Wallachia, his coinage bore the dragon symbol, from which the name “Dracula” is derived. People of Wallachia only knew voievod (king) Vlad III as Vlad Teppes (the Impaler). The name “Dracula” became popular in Romania after publication of Stoker’s book. Contrary to popular belief, the name Dracula does not translate to “son of the devil” in Romanian, which would be “pui de drac”.

The Order of the Dragon (Latin: Societas Draconistarum, lit. “Society of the Dragonists”) was a monarchical chivalric order for selected nobility, founded in 1408 by Sigismund who was King of Hungary (r. 1387–1437) at the time and later became Holy Roman Emperor (r. 1433–1437). It was fashioned after the military orders of the Crusades, requiring its initiates to defend the cross and fight the enemies of Christianity, in particular the Ottoman Empire.

 

The Order flourished during the first half of the 15th century, primarily in Germany and Italy. After Sigismund’s death in 1437, its importance declined in Western Europe, but after the Fall of Constantinople in 1453, it continued to play a role in Hungary, Croatia, Wallachia and Serbia which bore the brunt of the Ottoman incursions.

 

In 1396, Pope Boniface IX proclaimed a crusade against the Ottomans, and a campaign was organized to recapture the fortress and put a halt to the Ottoman expansion. Sigismund was nominally in charge; however, in the 1396 Battle of Nicopolis the French leader, John of Nevers, commanded the French half of the forces and ignored Sigismund’s entreaties by charging the Turks. About 15,000 crusaders died with only a few leaders, including Sigismund, escaping. Sigismund returned to Hungary in 1401 and, facing a number of revolts, gradually resumed control and re-asserted himself as the King of Hungary. This was achieved by allying himself with the political party of Stibor of Stiboricz, Nicholas II Garay, and Hermann II of Celje, in return for their military support, which enabled him to fight off domestic rivals. Sigismund campaigned against the Croats and Bosnians, which culminated in 1408 with the Battle of Dobor—fought for the possession of Bosnia—and a massacre of noble families.

 

Vlad II (born August 30, 1400), known as Vlad Dracul (English: Vlad the Dragon), was a voivode (English: duke) of Wallachia. He reigned from 1436 to 1442, and again from 1443 to 1447. He was the father of Mircea II, Vlad Călugărul (English: Vlad the Monk), Vlad III Dracula, who became posthumously known by the epithet Țepeș (English: the Impaler), and Radu III the Beautiful.

 

Vlad II received the surname Dracul in 1431, after being inducted into the Order of the Dragon, founded in 1408 by the King Sigismund of Hungary (the later Holy Roman Emperor), as part of a design to gain political favor from the Catholic Church and to aid in protecting Wallachia against the Ottoman Empire.

 

Vlad II Dracul was a member of the House of Drăculești lineage, and son of Mircea “the Old”, Voivoide of Walachia, and was known to have murdered members of the rival princely House of Dănești, a not-so-distant relation to his own father’s House of Basarab, and gained power in Wallachia, upon returning from exile in Transylvania in 1436.

 

The identity of Vlad’s first wife is unknown. His second wife, Princess (Cneajna) Vasilissa of Moldavia, was the eldest daughter of Alexandru cel Bun and paternal aunt of Stephen the Great of Moldavia.

 

Of his legitimate children, Mircea was the eldest, his mother’s identity being unknown. Vlad Călugărul was the product of Vlad and one of his mistresses, a Wallachian noblewoman called Călțuna. Vlad Țepeș and Radu were children of his marriage with Vasilissa of Moldavia.

 

Vlad, having numerous mistresses, also fathered several illegitimate children, including another son named Mircea (the name Mircea being a family favorite due to Vlad’s father, Mircea cel Bătrân, a popular Wallachian voivode).

 

In 1431, Vlad Dracul’s brother Alexandru I Aldea took the throne from Dan II, the latter having held it on and off since 1420. In 1436, following Alexandru I Aldea’s death from illness, Vlad Dracul ascended the throne.

 

Mircea II ascended to the throne in 1442, as Vlad Dracul was in the Ottoman court negotiating for support from the Ottomans in an effort to better defend his rule against John Hunyadi, the voivode of Transylvania. Following the battle of Marosszentimre (Romanian Sântimbru) in 1442, Hunyadi forcefully entered Wallachia and forced Dracul to submit.[2] In 1443, Mircea II was ousted from the throne by an invading army led by Hunyadi, and was forced to flee. Hunyadi placed Basarab II, son to Dan II, on the throne. However, Basarab II held the throne for only a short time, losing it within a year to Vlad Dracul, supported by armies of the Ottoman Empire. Vlad Dracul had made a treaty with the Ottomans insuring that he would give them annual tribute, as well as sending Wallachian boys to them yearly to be trained for service in their armies.

 

Mircea II supported his father, but did not support his politics with the Ottoman Empire. Mircea II led Wallachian forces in a successful campaign against the Ottomans with the full knowledge of his father, but with neither support nor opposition from him. An able military commander, Mircea II successfully recaptured the fortress of Giurgiu in 1445. However, in yet another treaty with the Ottomans, his father allowed the Ottomans to again have control of the fortress in an effort to retain their support of his having the throne, and in an effort to keep his two captive sons safe.

 

In 1443, the new King of Hungary, Ulaszlo I (also King of Poland as Władysław III Warneńczyk), launched the Varna campaign against the Ottoman Empire, under the command of Hunyadi, in an effort to drive the Turks out of Europe. Hunyadi demanded that Vlad II fulfill his oath as a member of the Order of the Dragon and a vassal of Hungary: Vlad was commanded to join the campaign but declined.

 

Pope Eugene IV absolved Dracul of his promise, but demanded that he send his son Mircea II instead (it is likely that Vlad II had originally denied the request in an effort to prevent his sons from being convoked). The Christian army was destroyed in the Battle of Varna; Hunyadi escaped the scene, and was blamed by many, including Mircea II and his father, for the debacle. This marked the start of hostilities between Hunyadi on one side and Vlad Dracul and his eldest son on the other.

 

In December 1447, boyars in league with the Hungarian regent, John Hunyadi, rebelled against Vlad Dracul II and beheaded him in the marshes near Bălteni. Mircea, Dracul’s eldest son and heir, was blinded and buried alive at Târgoviște.

But the gothic and mysterious romance and blending ooze of hard facts tainted with fanaticism, has indeed planted the seed of intrigue into the minds of historians and imagination of people who believe in the mystical magical powers possessed in Kelpius and his ‘Philosopher’s Stone.’

The stone is an alchemical substance that has the ability to turn lead into gold.

 

Shady dealings and romance was the lore spun of Kelpius. His spiritual teachings were reminiscent of ‘Zen Buddhism.’

Kelpius was reportedly born in or about 1667 in Europe. His home town is currently known as ‘Sighisoara, Romania’ – where religious infighting fueled a protestant reformation. It was a devastating rift in European civilization.

Johannes was schooled in Bavaria (Germany) where he earned a doctorate in liberal arts. He became infatuated with a radical form of Lutheranism, deism. The order rejected the church and religious hierarchy. ‘The Society of The Women in the Wilderness, a band of forty or so like-minded followers, of which he came to lead, advocated a direct relationship with God.

Kelpius thought this devoted group that the world would end is the year 1694, when Heaven merges with Earth.

Kelpius believed the catastrophe would begin in the wilderness of Philadelphia. A vessel was chartered for the journey across the Atlantic to the Americas.

 

Sparking the imagination, romantic novelists and poets began to take notice of the monks. Their hermit lifestyle fascinated one particular writer who happened to be a friend of ‘Edgar Allan Poe.’ His name is George Lippard.

Mr. Lippard wrote of the monks. He is quoted as saying “The Wissahickon Valley, outside of Philadelphia City, is a hot-bed of eerie activity.” He wrote and published a string of books accounting for the occult practices of witchcraft, devils, spells, and debauchery.

 

Researching and tracing the truth is what I’m after, not fables, legends, and flowery prose. I seek truth and facts. It appears, thought Sally while sitting behind his desk, the more I dig into this so-called legend, the murkier it seems to become.

When I went to the public library, the records were partly vague. I’ve discovered that hermits tend not to keep copious records if any at all. I’ve successfully been able to dig up third and second hand accounts coupled with a few generations of opaque comments and opinions on the legend by nearby residents and family members.

I knew then that I had to dig a bit deeper. Little did I know this intrepid trip would take my research and investigation to Transylvania, Romania, Africa, Istanbul, Morocco, Italy, and back to the States?

 

One resident of the Roxborough neighborhood who’s residence was near the Ridge Avenue, Port Royal Avenue, and Henry Avenue intersection told me of a man who went walking in the woods; like many who visit the Wissahickon – Valley Green trails. He spoke of how the man stumbled upon a prayer meeting of sorts. He began the tale with a recollection of another individual who transplanted from Europe to the States near or around the same era as Johannes. He didn’t remember his name.

“Like his father and grandfather, this descendent of Attila also remained in seclusion and clandestined shrouds of secrecy and darkness near the ‘Bells Mills Road’ area.

The man, a rather large and tall Black; a Nubian born prince to the best of my knowledge, was hardly seen out in the bright of day.” He continued saying, about thirty years ago, I remember hiking through the park near Hermits Lane in Roxborough when I heard a ghostly singing nearby. There was another man walking not far in front of me. He noticed the bizarre happenings as well.

We heard “Rom mom, rom mom mom.” The chanting chorus resounded over and over again.” The speaking man continued, “It was gloriously creepy.” Following the sounds of singing and chanting, we came upon an equally, if not more, creepy sight. We saw a circle of figures huddled around a large yawning stone portal embedded in the hillside. Immediately, I, we recognized who they were.”

 

“We killed 23,884 Turks without counting those whom we burned in homes or the Turks whose heads were cut by our soldiers. I have killed peasants, men and women, old and young. They lived in Oblucitza and Novoselo, where the Danube flows into the sea. And yes, High up to such places as Samovit and Ghighen as well as up to Rahova, which is located near Chilia, from the lower Danube; thus, your highness, know this, I have broken the peace with Sultan Mehmed II.”

 

The rain fell hard and steady upon the makeshift gallows. The hangman’s noose was fitted snugly around the neck of the valiant warrior. He did not blink or whimper. His tall well-muscled, cut and bloodied frame, stood still…disciplined, proud, and godlike. One could think him frozen.

 

Of noble blood was he, this majestic warrior and usurper. Oh yes, the princely throat was custom fitted; the captured neck had twice before escaped sudden and intended death. The warrior prince, somehow, escaped the axe man’s blade and the finalizing guillotine.

 

In December 1447, boyars in league with the Hungarian regent John Hunyadi rebelled against Vlad II Dracul and killed him in the marshes near Balteni. To prevent Wallachia from falling into the Hungarian fold, the Ottomans invaded Wallachia and put young Vlad III on the throne. However, this rule was short-lived as Hunyadi himself now invaded Wallachia and restored his ally Vladislav II, of the Daneti clan, to the throne.

 

Vlad fled to Moldavia, where he lived under the protection of his uncle, Bogdan II. In October 1451, Bogdan was assassinated and Vlad fled to Hungary. Impressed by Vlad’s vast knowledge of the mindset and inner workings of the Ottoman Empire as well as his hatred of the new sultan Mehmed II, Hunyadi reconciled with his former rival and made him his advisor.

 

Vlad considered the boyars the chief cause of the constant strife as well as of the death of his father and brother. To secure his rule, he had many leading nobles killed and gave positions in his council, traditionally belonging to the greatest boyars, to persons of obscure origins, who would be loyal to him alone, and some to foreigners.

For lower offices, Vlad preferred knights and free peasants to boyars. In his aim of fixing up Wallachia, Vlad issued new laws punishing thieves. Vlad treated the boyars with the same harshness, believing them guilty of weakening Wallachia through their personal struggles for power.

 

During his life Vlad wrote his name in Latin documents as Wladislaus Dragwlya, vaivoda partium Transalpinarum (1475). His Romanian patronymic Dragwlya (or Dragkwlya) Dragulea, Dragolea, Draculeais a diminutive of the epithet Dracul “the Dragon” carried by his father Vlad II, who in 1431 was inducted as a member of the Order of the Dragon, a chivalric order founded by Sigismund of Hungary in 1408. Dracul is the Romanian definite form, the -ul being the suffigated definite article (deriving from Latin ille). The noun drac “dragon” itself continues Latin draco. In Modern Romanian, the word drac has adopted the meaning of “devil” (the term for “dragon” now being balaur or dragon).

 

This has led to misinterpretations of Vlad’s epithet as characterizing him as “devilish”. Vlad’s moniker of epe (“Impaler”) identifies his favorite method of execution. It was attached to his name posthumously, in ca.1550.

 

The gloomy rain-filled air went from gray to black in a hurry. The sound of leathery flapping night-wings filed the darkened air. The sound became deafening. The flapping became louder and louder. The fluttering clouded the view of all who could see. There were just too many flailing, flapping, flying wings.

The bronzed warrior son of the nobleman who spit and cursed at God smiled a bedeviling smile. He knew his freedom was a t hand. He would be free to once again drink and spill the blood of the conquered and the ravaged. Oh yes, this bastard half-African descendent was unknown to the sperm-donor father who was infamously despised and feared. The father known to us as “Vlad The Impaler.”

 

‘Vlad Teppes’ victories offer some of the Moorish Villages allowance for momentary relaxation and other physical and mind resting indulgences. A descendent of ‘Attila the Hun,’ Vlad Teppes lost his humanity to false rumors and self-destruction. Vlad held many women in his arms and teeth. His blood lust was only surpassed by the lust within his loins.

So what if we existed for real? We haunt your dreams, your movies, your urban legends and your novels. Your children want to be us, emulate us; they dress in their black clothes listen to their melancholy music and wear their precious little fangs. They hang out at clubs and malls pretending to be something that they could not comprehend in a lifetime. Why? Coincidences, seemingly of a marvelous character, there are few persons who have not, on occasion, been startled. It also goes without saying; even the calmest of thinkers have experienced a vague thrilling half-credence in the supernatural genre.

 Emissaries brought the names of ‘Duprae’ and ‘Abberline’ to the America’s. Not unlike ‘Sherlock Holmes,’ they had become household names within the law enforcement community. Duprae’s mantra preceded that of his famous colleague. The family crest of Lord Talbot arrived years before them.

The simple process to which he incorporated in solving cases had never before been disclosed to anyone… Not even the Prefect. The sole entity of that demesne is gifted to only me.

Of course, it’s not so surprising that the closed and solvent affairs were regarded as just short of miracles or that Chaunea’s analytical abilities gained his the notoriety and awarded credit on intuition and sagacious insight.

Being frank would have created an atmosphere of prejudice and abuse to every individual who would inquire into his practicum of procedure; his indolent humor forbade any such agitation of a topic whose interest has long ago dissipated. This position in many past times, have found him the attraction of cynical political eyes. The insolvable cases of which he was engaged were requested services at a level above Prefect.

Marie was the only daughter of the widow ‘Estelle Roget (Rogers)’ In France, they were named ‘Roget’ while the American adoption changed it and pronounced it as ‘Rogers.’ Marie’s (she is sometimes called Mary) father died when she was a baby. He was assassinated when she was approximately eighteen months of age. The couple, along with their daughter, resided in a close-nit cul-de-sac community, in Queens. I did not convey all that should have been…needed to be told regarding the old gentleman’s organs beneath the floor. The brief allusion as to what transpired according to one author who reported me as being so stupid a “tattle-tale,” that I’d spilled my guts to the gendarmes.

Ha…what a laugh! The misguided scribe had very little to report, as did Mr. Poe, who mentioned something about a heart thumping underfoot in the old man’s house. The first writer, as mentioned quoted:

“A knock came upon the door… Two men, plainly dressed in tie and coat, accompanied by two in uniform appeared. My eye peered at them through the semi-opened door. I opened it just a crack, as I did not wish for them to hear the pounding beneath the floor.

The pounding noise would not stop. I had to find a way to make it stop. Don’t you understand? It had to stop. It began to pound loudly. It was too loud…very Loud! Do you not hear it? It’s driving me mad, mad I tell you! Through the crack in the floor, the orb peered out at me.

It was fixated upon me! It glared at me all the time. I could not look on it any longer… I had to make it go away. Even if I had to pluck it out of the head of the old man while he sat in the rocking chair. That is why I had to put him and that vultures’ eye under the floor. There wasn’t time enough to dispose of him and it properly. It wasn’t his fault that the evil eye stared at me. It would not be able to gaze on me if it was under the floor out of sight.”

Hah…that’s what the author put in his collection of stories and reports. He didn’t know the half of it. Allow me to complete his rendition before I trust you with further details.

“Readers can visualize the gruesomeness of the pale blue orb, described as a ‘vulture’s eye;’ the evil eye covered by a thin film like that of a fish. It was terribly nasty to look at. In a frenzied dismemberment of the old man’s body, I was preparing to dispose of it and the f…… heart that I kept hearing beat beneath the damnable boards of the floor. I was a vile individual who had every reason to believe that I could make and escape of paying the price for taking the life of an innocent soul.”

The truth is he was not as completely innocent as some would have you think…

I laugh to think I was brought here by my father along with the family from the cold dark and dank alleyways of ‘Edinburgh.’ To think my life so bad that we had to move away to another town filled to the gullet with more cold dark and dank alleyways. Some call the eerie traverse-ways as bastions of hell’s corridors. These causeways are the birth canals of the butchering ‘Ripper.’

My course throughout has lead me astray due to the raptures and starving readiness of servitude. A short stay in ‘Her Majesty’s Royal Navy did me no good either. After cutting a man’s throat from ear to ear, they tossed me in the bloody brig intent on making a date with the gallows’ hangman who was in competition with the axman.

My tale of woe and contempt began there, at home, and continued to escalate while I was sitting and stuffing my belly full of mutton, gruel, and a tawny red port. When that was done, a nice bottle of claret did suffice. The cognac was a bit tasty indeed. Down on my luck, I hadn’t two copper coins to rub together. I needed work. I needed a place to lay my head. I had to eat. When was it last that I’d eaten? Two days ago, maybe three… I can’t quite remember.

Someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned. The mustached and bearded man smiled at me while pouring a glass of claret. He shoved the goblet under my nose. Its bountiful aroma was unbearable. I had to taste, to drink of it, to swallow it. I downed half of the goblet’s content. Through the stupor of my drunken gaze, I turned once again. I wanted to thank the smiling stranger. He accordingly nodded and poured once more.

“I do understand good sir, that you are in need of gainful employment and boarding am I correct?”

I dizzily nodded in agreement and emptied the chalice again. The alcohol laden beverage really had a firm grip on my vision… It played with it gaily and freely. The room did appear to be moving in a dizzying circle of brilliant lights, and dulling dark grey from the floor to the ceiling and back again. The smiling man was mouthing something. I couldn’t make it out. His eyes seemed to flash a reddish hue to one of brilliance and an awe of menace. He appeared cheerfully adept at gaining and commandeering one’s confidence. His smile began to cause me worry and threatened concern. Yes, even through the thick veil of a drunken stupor that has engulfed me. His smile seemed to change from one of comfort to that of a sinister and frightful sneer and gloat. Now, correct me if my recollections are incorrect…did I mention his smile? Oh yes, I did. He made a few gestures at two men sitting in the back of the pub…I think.

They gulped down their grog and responded to his beckoning. The candle and lantern lit room continued to dance and play verily with applauded merriment. I could almost swear I heard the inn keeper’s deep-throated spittle-juiced voice raising a fuss. I wasn’t really sure; I thought I heard him say to his barroom lackeys, “Get the bastard out – take him if you will – we have no need of a drunken penniless vagrant – get him the hell out!”

I don’t believe the smiling man was in cahoots with the innkeeper of whom he held an acquaintance. But he did not hesitate to succumb to the owner’s request.

Someone said that I went mad. They said that I went stark raving mad when they tried to lift and remove me. They said I screamed and screamed, “Don’t let the devil take me – don’t let him get me! Please save me…! Did I truly gaze upon the face of Lucifer?

They all gave assistance to the smiling man and his two friends. It was said that they carried me to the coach of black, pulled by four black stallions along the way. It bore, on the coach door, the markings of the rich old man’s family crest who resided up above on yonder hill.

No one remained in his employ for long…not longer than three or four months; a fortnight at the least. No female, single or no, would ever venture up there. They preferred to remain in the safety of here, down here under the auspices of the castle-like mansion up yonder, overlooking ‘Putney Hill,’ just outside of London Town.

I awoke on a cot in the back of a warm fire lit kitchen. My head did ache and was complimented with waves of nausea. I felt as though I were going mad.

There was a tall thin yet ghastly man named Cyrus. He was the old man’s man-servant. I couldn’t tell who was more the ancient between the two.

The rotund woman with a face of stone appeared. She attended to kitchen chores and food preparations. She never looked me square in the eye. When she saw that I had stirred and stumbled to the table, she placed in front of me, a bowl of hot gruel. It was hot and steamy but smelled to high heaven. The stench caused me to heave and turn from sight. The cook woman continued her chores of meal preparation. She busied herself by skinning and chopping into pieces, a rather large and slick slimy black skinned eel. She did this while the wiggling writhing thing remained alive.

I was then directed to a wash area just outside. It entertained a rather larger than normal bathtub. It wasn’t for me to use. It was used by frequent and privileged members of the household. That was when the house was filled with life and children. The estate employees rarely took baths if at all. The belief in body protection was the law of the land. It kept the vermin off and the germs out of the pores. The household help was mainly hired from the villages close and near the mansion some called a castle. It had a mote and bulwarks for defense and battle. This house was reported to have been full of activity and visitors constantly coming and going to and fro. Today, it is like that of a tomb.

The old man was all that was left of a great and bountiful family. Myth has it they were all killed off by poisonings and other feats of jealousy over the family fortune as opposed to its posterity.

Once finished with the forced washing from the wooden bucket in the barn near the horse stables, I was directed by the tall man servant as to what my duties would be. Most of the chores that where assigned was to be on the grounds area around barn, garden, and outside of the building. Several other duties were in and around the kitchen, basement, and occasionally hauling furnishings and supplies upstairs. In certain areas in the interior of the estate were not without the strictest supervision and or under direct orders. I was not to go anywhere in the house without the watchful eye of the tall man servant or the stone faced cook. I would soon violate that directive. Someone told me the old man kept his moneybox in his room; under his bed. It was said to be full of nothing but golden coins of immense value and worth. If that was so, it would not be long before I too, would be a rich man.

In my mind’s eye, I could see the smiling man smiling at me – that wry slick sinister grin of a smile.

I pondered over whether I needed a partner or not. Did I truly need assistance in removing the servants from the house? The brew I was drinking ran low and warm. I summoned for another. My current wages of more than two months now, have allowed the purchase of a few luxuries. I haven’t had the privilege of having the ability to afford such things. I wasn’t able to do this since my last sailing vessel. My God, it seemed like ages ago.

The fat cook and the damned tall butler had to go. That’s final. The problem was how to get rid of them.

Today, I was to clean the stables. It’s usually done on Saturday morning, but since there was to be a wake on Sunday afternoon into the late evening, some chores were postponed while others simply cast off. The master would not be alone until Sunday afternoon into Monday early morning.

My plan was now laid before me. Sunday afternoon into early morning was my free and personal time. The only other free time was after dinner through the week for two or three hours. Even then, I could be located by the staff should I be needed for anything the master might require of me. On occasion, I’ve had to hitch the team of horses to the wagon or buggy and fetch the doctor who resides about 20 kilometers to the north.

On a bright crisp and chipper Sunday morning, birds and squirrels made adequate noises that aroused and soothed the senses. The trees were riffled thoroughly by the strong brisk wind. The boughs reached for the bright yellow sun that teased the tulips and bade them to open lovingly to the warmth. And I, oh yes, I listened intently to the preacher’s sermon. I had to stick very close to the master this morning. No one noticed that the butler or the maid were not in attendance, save one.

The wake of the old man’s cousin, a last remaining blood relative that was to be buried after this morning’s church service, went off without a hitch.

I aided the tall manservant in bringing food and refreshments to the guests. The cook-maid-housekeeper also utilized my services for the betterment and saving of expenses. Having me double-up on my duties and foregoing my free time after dinner in order to serve them. How dare they assume such a position as to make me their servant. Dog am I? I’ll fix them… They shall soon see who the servant is and who the master is. Oh yes, they shall soon see…

The last dinner guest stumbled out of the door a little past one on Sunday morning. I had nodded off in the driver’s seat of the cold and wet carriage. The coal black stallions waited impatiently for nearly an hour. They stamped and pranced, snorted, and grunted in the watery darkness. They desired to complete their mission, their assignment to deliver and or retrieve the passenger and return to the warm hey matted stalls of the barn. They, like I, desired sleep. But, they and I still had work to do.

It was just past three when I arrived back at the mansion. The team of stallions were happily bedded down for the remainder of the night. It was about four a.m. when I started for the inside of the house. I’d decided to call off the plan for now. I was too tired and sleepy. Besides, I still hadn’t decided if I needed help or not. After all, the tall manservant was indeed a formidable foe. The rotund cook woman was not to be trifled with either. With her brooms, sticks, pots, and cutlery…she could easily stretch a man upon yon table in preparation for dissection. On there, she would be able to skin him and chop him like that of the massive live eel that perished not so long ago.

Upon placing my boot soles upon the mud scrapper, the door of the back kitchen violently flew open inwardly. The tall man was standing there snarling at me.

“Where in the f… have ye been, Monkey-boy? Aye, ye must’ve been sloshing at the pub, getting drunk and shirking your duties, I’d say!” The spit form his verbiage splattered about my face and chest. The ponderage of contempt that I was entertaining toward him suddenly leaped into a full blown rage. I struck him with my right fist and then with my left. I hit him once more with my left for good measure. Before he could bring himself from the floor, I’d already stuck him in the ‘Adams’ Apple’ with my ‘Jim Bowie Knife.’ He bled like a butchered stuck pig. He made not a sound. He made not a sound because he could not. He made an attempt to scream to no avail. The shocked and bewildered look on his dead face lost all semblances of color and life. His eyes were frozen and stuck wide open. I left him that way.

The fat lady screamed and cried in fright. I really did expect her to put up a fight. I mean, her constant boasting and order barking was enough to make a grown man sit up and take notice. However, she did not fight or retaliate. She simply turned to run. She screamed and cried in fright, turned and ran. Her round plump figure did not waddle as she usually did when traversing room to room. She quickly and smoothly floated over the floor as if on wheels or that of a cloud. It did her no good though.

My aim was good and true as my throw. My blood laden blade stuck firmly in her back. The plopping noise made by her plop to the floor was loud and thunderous. She was trapped between the stove and cutting counter. She kicked and screamed in an attempt to get up. Her efforts availed her not. Her struggle was fruitless.

She bled practically all over the place. The bleeding was even more intense when I removed my ‘Bowie Knife’ from her severed spine. The kicking and moving ceased. Stepping around to face her, I squatted down on the floor to get a real good look. Her eyes were moving. She was looking for me, at me. The inquiring look of why was communicated through tear filled eyes.

I decided to explain things to her. After all, I feel that I owe her that much, especially after all that barking, shouting, and ordering me about.

“Well ya see, Ms. Lizzie, you all thought you was better than me. Ya thought you all had it made… But you didn’t! Now who’s the one doing the bowing and scraping? Who’s the one pleading and begging for help? It’s you bitch!

Now that the f…… slimy and smelly old man is going to pay me big time and neither of you can stop me. All them times ya’ll sent me up there to that stinking room to fetch his piss and shit…hell, it was bad enough that I had to eat, sleep, and take a shit with the animals in the barn. And you made me wash his stinking ass when I couldn’t wash mine! He got to use that great big tub full of hot water while giving me a bucket of cold. Now just how do you think that made me feel? A do give ya’ll credit for looking after me when I first got here. I really did appreciate it. You should have kept up with being nice to me. I would have cut you both in on the take, but all ya’ll wanted to do was serve and protect that bastard old man. Well now I’ll get it all while you and the tall man eat shit. I’ve been meaning to tell you about that wretched dog’s eyes! I hated to look at the damned things – they are the ugliest and most horrible eyeballs I had ever seen, the one on the left in particular. But now, I don’t have to look at them slimy orbs any longer. I’m going to pluck the f…… things out! First, that large pale blue film covered vultures’ eye with the snot-like slime all around it. Then there is that other grey looking droopy laden thing on the other side of his hideously bumped and pickled face. I’m going to remove those things so that they see no more. Then I’ll recover my fortune and depart this accursed wicked place.

Now, to put you out of your misery… Your spinal cord is severed. Therefore, you are probably not feeling any pain, yes?”

What a shame…that pleading look in the cook’s eyes changed from one of tearful inquisition to that of full blown dread…of terror and horror. I felt exhilaratingly exuberant excitement with the thought of them finding her butchered corpse on the cutting table and severed head in the kitchen sink.

The smiling man was leaning against a large maple tree when they arrived at the church this morning. He smiled at the old man and winked and pointed a gnarled and rotted finger at me. We continued on into the building.

The butler’s body was taken out and dumped in the hay-baling machine… It was easily chewed and spit out into a reddened bale of hey at the end of the thumping and crunching cycle. They came out in a group of four bales before the reddening ceased coloring the golden colored hay. I stacked them in a nice neat stack beneath the correctly colored ones. They could not be seen without moving the stack. In time, the worms and night crawling vermin will devour the blood stained bails. If not, the horses will.

I made up my mind to clean up when I returned from the old man’s room. I’ve decided what I needed to do with the old man before I’d pack to leave. First, I must find the money box.

Oh, how awful the smell is. The air within the old man’s bed chamber is putrid. How in hell does he breathe in here? I choke and gag every time I’ve had to come in here. Thankfully, the scarce times have been few. The room, the very air itself has the aroma of death and disease. The horrible menace of ‘Prince Prospero and the Red and Black Death which weighed in across the land, destroyed more lives than protect. Bodies amassed throughout one nearby kingdom. It, ‘The Red Death,’ appeared at one of the Princes’ guest parties where the participants dressed as animals and crawled about the floor. They apparently had run amok and truly believed they were the things they portrayed. The orgies were of and with one another as well as the real animals that were brought into play. The feast was all the rage. The Prince had his bowman kill the husband of one of the women he had bedded at an earlier party held within the castle. The bowman shot an arrow into the man from up high on the castle bulwark. The report of killings and mass mutilations spread quickly throughout the kingdom.

I paid particular attention to the vicar’s sermon this morning. He spoke of God’s vengeance upon murderers.

“Behold, there shall be retribution!” He shouted from the pulpit. Then his voice took on a gentle and soothing tone after the thunder. I do believe he was speaking directly to me. The thunder rose again…

“Thou Shalt Not Kill!” Once again, I got that ice-cold chill. I tried in vain not to look up at the preaching holy man. He was looking directly at me. I, in the midst of a battalion of Sunday worshippers, could not help but believe the message within the sermon was directly pointing at me!

“Satan robbed the human race blind when he tempted Adam and Eve in Eden.” Jesus described Satan as a thief whose purpose is “to steal and kill and destroy.”
(John 10:10)

The preacher continued. “Satan is doing this thing, robbing God’s people of the gifts he wants us to have, including our joy, peace, and purpose. Are you ever stumped about what to do or where to go next?” The speaker on the pulpit scanned the room after that question. His eyes bounced to and fro, and then came to rest upon me. I cast my gaze downward.

The vicar continued on with his sermon.

“That confusion is the result of Satan’s work. Before their fall, the only wrong choice, scripture tells us, that Adam and Eve could make was to eat the forbidden fruit. Every other option they had was a good one. But after they sinned, they had all kinds of good and bad choices to make.

The devil is also stealing our financial blessings by tying us up in debt that’s often the result of a greedy desire for more. We get those letters congratulating us on our outstanding credit and offering us another shiny coin that will give us the buying power and financial independence we so richly deserve. But the back end or that deal is financial bondage that could take us years to get out of.

Even more tragically than all of this, the devil is stealing our marriages and our families. We’re told that divorce among Christians has caught up with adultery and lasciviousness. That will never do in a Christian Kingdom of God.

The devil never tells you the deal up front. If a thief with a knife and mask knocked on your front door and asked to come in, what would you do? You’d slam the door and lock it! But thieves don’t do that. They’re deceptive, sneaking into the house when no one is looking. Since Satan is a master deceiver, we need to be on the alert for his approach!”

I felt the messenger’s eyes, once again upon me.

Monday morning came rapidly. It took all night to dispose of the bodies. The barn would have to be set ablaze due to the gore which spilled over the side of the large wash tub. The grass and hay bales failed to mask the spillage.

Hot boiling water and raw soap successfully removed the mess of the cook from the kitchen and pantry. Some stains remained on the upstairs floorboards of the master bedroom. There was also other various spotting underfoot. A nice fresh coat of paint and varnish should take care of that. What to do with the smell? It’s so rank and putrid, maybe lime powder and sulfur would explain the foul odor.

The old man’s body was not as difficult to dispose of as compared to the others… He was small, frail, and puny. They were not. Their parts had to be made smaller. The dispersal was a multi-tasked effort. The tall man was pretty damned heavy for a long and lanky fellow. After removing his limbs and burying those in scattered places for the worms and nocturnal creatures’ dinner treat. I thought of dropping the torso down the abandoned well located about 500 yards from the back of the castle’s kitchen. The new water pump pumped fresh well water right into the kitchen cook area. The hay-baling machine made a nice and neat package for the delivery. The buried parts would take too long to dissolve. I dug those up and added them to the menu of the manual hay-baler as well. This gadget worked wonders on many a farm that could afford to pay to have one built. The skilled farm servants constructed a way to make bales of hay and stalked wheat and barley by way of a compression grinder. It chopped, ground, and packed the coarse produce into square clumps that could be bond with ties, keeping them intact and easy to mobilize and feed to the animals. Only the rich lords of the realm cold afford to have them on their fields and farmlands. The contraption was a mass of turning and churning razor sharp long curved blades on a series of pulleys and wheels. These wheels were turned from the outside handle by the farmhand operating it. It proved to cut and chop a number of things that were recycled and or disposed of right back into the soil.

The cook was prepared in the manner of a fine dining affair. Her parts were carved up like one would carve a slaughtered cow. It was done in such a manner to drive one into believing he had before him a dissection chart like those displayed in butcher shops across the land.

The master of the house was fast asleep. The dark empty night provided ample cover and time to do the dastardly deed. He would prove to be the easiest of the three.

He pulled and yanked upon the bell chord, over and over again. I watched to see what he was doing through the crack of the butlers’ room door and its’ molding. It was to no avail, for he would from now on receive no response from any or either persons, save one…mine!

Flinging open the door between the tall man’s room and that of the master of the house, I stepped in to answer his call.

“You rang sir?” I responded with evil intent and a wicked smile of enthusiasm.

“Where is Cyrus?” he demanded. “As a matter of fact, I haven’t seen him all day –not since last night.” His voice was of an annoying high pitched variety. It squealed in raspy high tones splashing in gurgle. The spray of spittle saturated as he spat forth words of difficult understanding.

He never said a word while we sat through the Sunday sermon. I didn’t have to look upon the wretched fool’s eye through the day. He wore spectacles with darkened lenses. They were of the type that kept out the majority of the light with designed smaller lenses that shaded from the side of the eye. They appeared to be wrapped around the face of the wearer. I’d seen only one pair Manufactured of this type, designed to keep out the light on one other person. I had the misfortune to attend another funeral. It was the ‘Lady Ligeia.’ My crew and I were working the grounds after the fox hunt and the funeral as well. Verdon wore spectacles such as those previously described. They would be a perfect pair of glasses for a blind person who wishes to hide their eyes from curious and prying people.

It was I who brought him his morning gruel, toast, milk, and tea. I also made ready his morning bath. I dressed him and made him ready for church services. It was I who carried him down and out to the ready and waiting carriage.

Upon our return, nary a word was spoken between us, save, “Yes M’ Lord and this way or that M’ Lord, and watch your step M’ Lord.”

All this I did without once having to gaze upon that evil, slimy, and horrible vultures’ eye. As successful as the day’s endeavors, it should, I expect, will end in a finality of fruitfulness. Just as easily as I’ve managed this day, I will end it with the night.

The freshly sharpened knives were at the ready upon my arrival from the pub. Two pints of grog along with an ample amount of rye was all that I needed to re-induce my lust for blood and booty.

Many a time was I warned about mu loose lips and rum indulgences while aboard ship. Many a time did I find myself in the brig or the alley after consumption of spirits and wine. This time was not unlike before when I was shown the street by way of the door. I do not recall speaking of murder and bloodlust, or bounty while sitting with those whom I thought to be friends…kinsmen. Two suited gentlemen sat in a darkened corner of the room. They rarely took away their gazing upon me throughout my rather gay and boisterous visit. I do not believe that I was drunk when my forced departure became relevant.

The muddy sloshy walk home was, it seemed, a bit difficult. But my direction was clear and I had a job to do, just one more job to do.

The room was dark except for the candle light emerging from behind me. The light from the butler’s room caused me to appear like that of a spectre in the night, a death dealer, a necromancer of evil intent.

At first, I decided to look for the moneybox. Crawling and scrambling about the floor, I could not find it. I searched under the bed and through the drawers and closets…nowhere was there a clue to be found.

Forgetting the noise made in my frantic panicky hunt, the master was awakened. I was positive that he would sleep through the ordeal. I was wrong. He was wide awake and clearly lucid.

“What the devil are you doing in here, boy?” he shouted in that nasty sounding tone. “Get your ass the hell out of here demon – you are a thief in the night – get out you thieving peasant!” His voice made me angry and anxious as he screamed for the tall man and the cook.

“Listen to me you bloody old bastard,” said I. “You’ll tell me where you keep your gold, silver, and money – the moneybox before I cut out your foul heart!” I meant every single word. And he knew it too.

The old man continued screeching as he jumped up and out of the bed. He scratched some match sticks on the box and lit the lantern before I could stop him. Instantly the room was flooded with light. He had time enough to lite two more candles. And then it happened just before I sliced off his head.

The interviewers started to argue amongst themselves. One waved a wrinkled and drying hand, gesturing me to stop talking. He was the assigned legal defender who encouraged me to stop talking. I did not…

It is true that I am nervous, dreadfully very nervous. Is it possible that I had been mad? Maybe I had been and am; but why would you, will you say that I am mad? The disease of alcoholism had sharpened my senses. It did not dull them. My sense of hearing was acute. At that moment, I heard all things in heaven, the Earth, and hell. So why would you say then, that I am or was mad? Am I not conveying to you my portion of the events in a calm and healthy manner?

My attorney sat down and the arguments of the colleagues did cease. They all sat quietly in ponderance and observance.

It is nearly impossible to say how I first decided to accept the idea of robbery. My friend at the pub merely mentioned that he would have liked to have the old man’s riches. I was of a different contemplation… The idea of becoming rich haunted me day and night. There was no real existence of pain or passion, simply irresistible and exhausting desire.

I had had enough of his screeching and bellowing. I asked – demanded once more for him to tell me where the fortune was hidden. He continued to defiantly disrespect and disregard my orders, my demands when that monstrous film laden eye fell upon me. The lantern and candle lit room intensified its’ hideous stare. It was the eye…the pale blue eye with a nasty snot-like slimy film over it – a vulture’s eye.

Now if you think this was the point of my madness, you could very well be correct. It was this evil eye that made my blood run cold. It completely sobered me. You should have seen me. It was then and there that I wisely proceeded with caution, foresight, and dissimulation that I went to work.

The vulture eye never once removed its starring gaze from my eyes. It held me frightfully fast. I could not move. I hesitated. In that moment of hesitation, there was a chilling calm just prior to my raising the butcher’s blade. The eye left me for an instant that may well have been a minute. It looked down. It looked down at my foot. I was standing on a very expensive Persian rug. The floor boards beneath it creaked.

“Ah, you have spilled the beans Old Man.”

Just as soon as that statement escaped my lips, the damned evil eye was upon me again. It fell upon me in such a manner, that I have not seen before. It caused me to hesitate, I nearly refrained my actions of intent all together.

The old man’s mouth parted in an attempt to speak. Off went his head before he could accomplish the act. The vulture’s eye never closed as his head bounced upon the floor and carpet.

The bleeding seemed to never end. It bled from the neck as well as from the head. The gory mess spurted more forcefully from the body. His hour had come.

I then smiled gaily. The deed is finally done. The problem would be in cleaning up this mess. The gore seemed endless as it was splashed, leaked, and dripped from everywhere in the room. It remained deathly quiet for what seemed a very long time. Although I could hear something…I wasn’t sure what it was or where it was coming from.

I knew that no one was here and the nearest house was half quarter mile away. Should you continue to think me mad, you will think so no longer when I describe the carefully wise and patient manner in my plan to conceal the body. But before I do anything else, I must recover the moneybox before it is soaked in blood. I still have several more hours of darkness before the morning Sun.

The heavy floor rug was moved away without effort. I threw it over the old man’s headless body. The head sat upright, looking at me through the film covered vulture’s eye while the other bloodshot one looked away. There seemed, I thought, to be a kind of thumping sound not unlike the one heard earlier, although faint.

The night began to wane. I removed the three creaking planks in the floor. Truly, the fortune was underfoot all the while pleading and demanding the old man’s untold secret.

Inside the brass box was two small burlap pouches of gold coins, bank bonds, and some other legal documents of no concern to me. I could not return the bloodied rug over the replaced flooring planks because it was soaked in the old man’s blood. The boards were replaced with accurate precision. No human eye, not even mine could have detected any difference than the rest, except for spilled and spotted blood upon them.

I had to replace the blood-spoiled rug with that of another from another room. It fit perfectly. Wise was I to think ahead to place absorbent free canvases and water repellent linings under the old man’s bed without his notice or knowledge. This operation took place while he was asleep sitting upon the privy on Saturday night.

Upon completion of cleaning the walls and floors of the bed chamber, I preceded to remove the body to the large tub in back of the house. The thumping by this time had increased ten-fold. Someone would hear this upon arrival. It must be stopped. Where is it coming from?

I searched all over the mansion to no avail. The thumping was by this time, nerve shattering. Returning to the tub, I was preparing to carve up the frail body and place them, the body parts, in the hay bailer. But there was a problem. The body was gone. The old man’s head and body, were not in the tub where I left them. The blood was still there – no body or head!

The horrible thumping continued. Along with the thumping came the chilling sound of the old man’s voice in a mocking spirit-like laughter.

The old man was sitting in his bed when I arrived back to his room. He was laughing at me. The slimy blue evil vulture’s eye was upon me…more intense than before. The room was brilliantly lit. I do not know til this day, from where it came. The thumping and the laughter and the gawking evil eye where just too much to take at one time…

I threw myself upon the old man. Ripping, pulling, and punching on him, I sliced off his head again. I did it with my ‘Bowie Knife’ this time. The other blades were washed, cleaned, and stored. They would be found in their original place in the kitchen after the fire burns down the property.

The head came right off. It was easy. It kept laughing while the eye kept gawking at me. I threw the head with that nasty eye, into the fireplace of the old man’s room. That’s when I discovered the source of the thumping. It was his bloody heart!

After all had been done, the packing of my things, the removal of any evidence indicating I’d been there, were removed. It was twilight. On one side of the house the Sun was rising. On the other side it was still as twelve o’clock midnight. The damned thumping heart was in my hands when a knock came upon the main door of the mansion. It was a loud demanding and pounding knock. I froze with fright. Who was there? What was I to do with these remaining body parts? I turned to see the headless body. It was gone…again! It disappeared. I must have been dreaming. I think I was not! The thumping heart remained in my hands, dripping and oozing fresh crimson blood. The bell on the outside of the main door rang with insistence. It rang in the same demanding manner as the knock upon the door. I jumped from the freshly made old man’s bed and threw back the replacement rug, exposing the three planks in the floor. In it, the hiding place, I dropped the old man’s loudly and violently thumping heart.

The beating did not stop. The pounding upon the door grew louder and more demanding. I did believe that I heard voices shouting and ordering the opening of the door, forthwith!

It seemed like hours had passed while I stood still, very still. I remembered the slight planning of this horrible deed. I should have taken more time at that stage.

In my mind’s ear, I heard a groan, a slight groan. Along with the groan came ice cold dread and mortal terror. How would I pay for this crime…this sin? I heard another groan, a slight groan. It was not the groan of pain, suffering, or grief; no it was not. It was the low pitched, though rising, sound that comes from the bottom of the soul and supercharged with awe. I was momentarily distracted with these memories of the event. That sound has taken me away at many a midnight dream. When the whole world was sleeping, I did not.

Welled up in my bosom, the weight of deepened dreadful echoes of terror kept me awake. The drink…the drink of the spirits, brewery, or the fluid yield of the vine was all that was needed to quell the storm that keeps me from sleep.

I knew how the old man felt. I did observe him closely at the church this morning. I had the strangest feeling that he knew what I was thinking, what I was planning. I think he knew it well. I didn’t know whether to pity him or not.

That murdering night, he looked at me. Sitting in his bed, he looked at me with that accursed eye. And the thump, thump, thump, and bumpity heart pounded in my head til it hurt. He laughed. He is laughing at me still; that hideous satanic laugh. He had indeed attempted to comfort himself with several suppositions.

“It was just a mouse scampering across the floor, it was just the wind blowing the chimes, or that of a timid cricket, chirping his nightly music.”

In vain they all had been, because death approached him quickly. He had seen the black shadow before me, somehow. Was time standing still? I could not take from my sight the hideously distinctive dull blue veil over that evil vulture’s eye. It sent ripples and currents of chills through the very marrow of my bones.

I could remove from my hearing the awful thumping, thumping, and bumpity thump of that dreadful heart; the heart of which I was standing over. It bumped and thumped underfoot, beneath the planks. I didn’t have time to wrap it. I didn’t have time to wash my hands. Upon opening mu eyes, I did expect to see the headless body of the old man upon the bed. I did not see him. I did not see the blood on my hands as they reached for the lock on the front door. Was I blind? Was I imagining all this? Yes, it had to be a drunken dream. Am I, have I gone completely mad?

The pounding suddenly and abruptly stopped. It was completely silent. It seemed, in a distance, I could hear voices. The voices sounded as if one were standing in a tunnel or a vast train station with the echoing of hundreds of thousands of voices speaking all at once. Then it came. It came up from the voices. It began to separate, to single out from amongst them. The laughter grew closer and louder. It was familiar to me, to my dreams. I was afraid, very afraid.

I felt as if I were standing on a cloud. I suddenly felt light-weighted, very light-weighted. The laughter grew to a thundering pitch. It was very close to me. It was all around me. The distant voices weren’t distant any longer. They too, were all around me, but where? The face that I had seen more than several times was stating me in the face. It began to smile, and it began to laugh. Yes, that was it…the repulsively vile and evil laugh of the smiling man!

He stood fully in front of me, taller than I. He waved one arm and produced the thumping heart. It was larger than recollection. In the other hand, he held the head of the old man. It also laughed. It laughed with its eyes closed. I closed mine and found that I could not. I saw it. I saw the old man open his ugly eyes! Of the two horrible orbs was that dull blue and hideously veiled evil eye of a vulture that chilled the very marrow of my bones, again and again. The smiling man looked down, right underfoot, the floor did open. It opened into a massive fiery pit of yellowish red and black glowing beings that appeared to be human forms – human beings. They were clambering and clawing at one another in fits of agony and painful gyrations of obtaining freedom. It was all vividly seen, right underfoot. The laughter, the crying, the pounding thumps, and the brilliant light did take away, drive me insanely out of my senses…completely out of my mind.

Three men entered when the street door opened. They introduced themselves authoritatively as policemen. One of them spoke and said, “Someone, a neighbor heard a shriek in the night. They were aroused by suspicions of foul play. They did telephone the station while another arrived in person. Several patrons at the pub also reported the possibility of misdeeds at these premises prompting us to investigate.”

This statement was reported after I’d asked the reason for their visit.

“The shriek was mine officers.” I replied. “I was having a series of bad dreams during the night.”

Allowing their inquisitions by welcoming them, I mentioned the old man was not at home.

“Alone in the house are ye?” The officer asked.

“Yes, the master of the house is residing at the summer residence in the countryside.” I smiled and conducted a tour of the house and grounds while leading them all about, I did my very best to lead them away from the master’s bed chamber. Once there, they scrutinized everything. They examined his valuables and moneybox. Everything was complete. I had not the time to complete my packing of the gold, silver and bonds in my packed belongings. They inquired about my packed bags. I told them that I was to join the master and the other household servants at the summer residence tomorrow.

Their interrogation appeared to be nearing its end while seated in the old man’s room. My chair, in my arrogance, was posted directly above the damned hellish heart. I smiled fervently and often. My manner, it seemed, was convincing. I answered cheerily while they rifled question after question. Familiar pieces of conversation were chatted between them. My head began to grow heavy. The pounding, though faintly low, began to thump. Laughter in the distance was eerily threatening. I looked eagerly into their eyes and faces and wondered if they could hear what I was hearing. I wished they would leave, leave now.

They continued to sit and chat. I joined in freely in an attempt to get rid of the ache of dread. I wished they would leave.

The distinctive noise of laughter and the pounding beat of that hideous heart underfoot, would simply give me away. My dulled and frightened senses could no longer distinguish the real or unreal. Where there was once a bloody headless corpse, a vulture eye laden head, and blood splattered room with the gaping hole, was the gate of hell…right there underfoot.

I was still sitting and chatting with the three interrogating policemen. How is this possible? How could this be?

I spoke more fluently and with a brightened voice. I boasted as if in a drunken state. The noise continued to grow. They heard it not. The chatted as if I was not there. I spoke louder in an attempt to overspeak the laughter of the smiling man and the pounding heart. The floor boards began to move beneath my feet. I stomped on the boards to keep them still. I smiled, almost to a fiendish grin. They talked, the laughing as loud, and the heart pounded like a drum.

They looked at me while continuing the conversation. They looked at me with an accusing stare. No, they weren’t there. Oh, but I was there. No, I wasn’t there…it wasn’t me!

They saw him…they saw the smiling man holding the head of the old man in one hand and the beating heart in the other. At his feet, right underfoot laid the headless body of the old man, and the other two corpses in their various forms of murdered remains, right underfoot. Could they not see this? It was plain enough to see… The horrible hole of hell lay right underfoot!

I remember someone saying, “If thy eye offends thee, pluck it out.”

The oily film covered vultures eye offended me and I plucked it out from the head of the old man. I did this thing right in front of the policemen…I think. I think that I was glad. I showed them the horrible film covered eye…I showed them how awful it is.

My blood ran cold. I was no longer in the old man’s room. The police were nowhere to be found. Where were they? I could not see them. I could not hear them talking.

I remember, I think, my bloody wrists in shackles. My hands and clothing were covered in red gore. My boots were covered in mud from my trek across the rain soaked back grounds of the mansion to the waiting prison wagon. I do recall many forms of investigators marching through the kitchen, barn, and stable of the old man’s property. Many different things…cutlery, and gadgets were being removed as well. They were committing a thorough search and seizure.

A tiny slither of moonlight slices the darkness through a crack in the cold slimy wall. My bed of rags and dried muddy straw lay just underfoot. Adjacent to the crack is a port sized glassless concrete window, sealed in by three iron bars that prevented escape through this particular conduit. The view from the window atop the bulwark of the prison citadel was to the left and to the right.

On the left was the silhouette of the guillotine, on the right was the view of the gallows, and above them only sky.

Has someone sent you a free Ebook or PDF containing valid and thorough research and content? Did you read it and submit a comment, editorial, or review? No? Have you considered the time and work the author has sacrificed? What about you? Have you been dissed when someone promised to read your material, post a review and/or comment? How did you feel when the promisor welched and pretended not to know you?

Many authors offer free copies of their books and written material only to have the work kicked to the wayside. They offer discounts with hopes of receiving positive and constructive feedback in order to provide a venue or model for improvement. every author is not a writer for profit! think about it… Wouldn’t it be a good thing if authors simply wished people would just read their work in hope of offering you, the reader, some additional fodder towards the improvement to your life journey? How many books have you read in your lifetime? Did you make it through school without the help and guidance of a book?

Would it be discourteous to think that people who receive gifts should acknowledge the fact? Would it be politically wrong to believe that when folks accept written material they should say whether it is a good read or a bad one? Would it be wrong for someone to not say anything to the giver of goods? What would your parents say to you if they knew that you had been rude…or have displayed rude behavior by lying to a person who has been told “I’ll read it later” or “I have to obtain another copy…I’ll buy one later,” after displaying an interest while receiving the work? Is this how you would raise your children? Would you have them live their lives practicing falsehood? What about complacency…would it be polite to expect something for nothing? Would it matter to you that the giver has gone through great expense, time, effort, personal sacrifice in producing said material? Where you really raised to practice such chicanery? How would you feel if promises were brought to bear with the trust and belief in the ones who say they are your family, friends, or colleagues? Don’t you think that expected action undelivered would cause a delay in posterity to the interpolate contribution?

Bona fide authors give a great deal of their time (sometimes it takes years, a lifetime) and effort in order to create. If it were not for writers, what would we know about anything? This action tacitly creates a portentous display of petulance on the part of the receiver who would, in many circumstances, participate in the endeavor to discuss a particular piece of work or author in a position that would describe the writer posthumously.

I wouldn’t like to see this happen to you or any other contributor… Neither would my parents.

The medicine men and priests among the Indians were usually merely those men who thought more deeply and strenuously than the average men in the tribe. These thinkers tended to live among the more successful tribes. To think, one needed at least some time free from the chore of procuring food.
Native American tribes did not call their medicine people “shamans.” This is a New Age term often misapplied to Native American Spiritual Leaders by people of European descent, self-professed “medicine” people and their followers.

Native Americans, New Agers, and charlatans alike have radically augmented and revised the tenets of traditional Native American religions. “Crystal skull caretakers” sit beside Native American medicine men and medicine women, shamans and priests, and “Star Beings,” rather than buffalo, are pondered. Outraged Native Americans have entered this fray, castigating those they see exploiting traditional Native American spirituality.

These medicine men or spiritual leaders were in a different class than the other men of their tribe. This special status was not dependent on their hunting and fishing. Contact with other tribes enabled thinkers to build and expand their belief frameworks, so medicine men or spiritual leaders were more prevalent in tribes that were accessible to outsiders.

As contemporary Native American religious flowerings are best understood by first examining the origins of Native American Spirituality, all of the contemporary sects are best comprehended in light of the traditional religions. As these differ from their New Age and Christian versions, each group is also unique compared to other traditional sects. These traditional sects are best understood as a conglomerate by investigating a few individual traditional Native American religions.

Chief Gerald Glenn, the Medicine Man, was second only to the chief in importance and standing within his tribal group. His duties involved both religious interpretations and pharmacology. A good medicine man became adept at both and as a result, he was often thought of as one who possessed magical powers. Before William Penn’s holy experiment, human impact in the Pocono Mountains by Native Americans and European settlers was minimal.

The Pennsylvania Mountains was one of the last colonies to be settled in the northern region of the state. The region remained wilderness until pressure from European settlers caused and influx of Native Americans from Maryland and the Carolinas’. Glenn, a direct descendent of the Lenape Chieftain of the Penn and Lenape Peace Treaty, 1682, Chief Tammany who died in 1718, was his great-great-grandfather. His wife, a Huron Princess, reared sons who took over as Chief of Nations along the Delaware Water Gap. They lived in peace with the residents of Stroudsburg, founded by Jacob Stroud in 1799.

The villages of the mountains raised buckwheat and rye, a big crop with potatoes, maze, oats, cattle, sheep, and hogs. Chief of his village as well as Chief of the Northeastern regional Forestry and Parks Services, Ranger Captain Glenn; like his, people are also members of the Northwestern Indian Confederacy in the Mountains of Pennsylvania, New York, and Canada. The tribal members are The Cree, The Creek, The Ottawa, The Seminole, The Huron, The Cherokee, The Algonquian, The Ojibwa, The Shawnee, and The Lenape Nations. Glenn continues his leadership in the protection of his people, their land, their tribal beliefs, and their heritage. Glenn’s mother was of Creek/Seminole descent while his father was the Tribal Chief of The Shawnee-Lenape (Munsee-Minisink) of Ontario Canada and the Poconos.

Willice Samuel’s family arrived up North from Georgia by way of Winnsboro, South Carolina. The family settled in Coatesville Pennsylvania, in or about April 1911. Willice’s Great-Great Grandfather talked about a lynching and burned at the stake murder of a Black Man by a mob of white men who wore masks. He said the Black Man; named Zachariah Walker was accused of shooting to death a white cop; named Edgar Rice. He was supposed to have been a special police officer in Coatesville. He went on to say, “The Colored Man was chased and treed in the woods in or near the Robert Faddis Woods near Youngsburg.

The Black Man tried to shoot himself in the head, but failed. They took the Black Man to the hospital were his injuries were treated. A gang of white men broke the window in the main hallway, corralled the police officer guarding him and dragged the Black Man from his sick bed to the Sarah Jane Newland Farm just to the right of the road and almost directly opposite the farmhouse. In a grass field about fifty feet from the road, they gathered dried Chestnut Rails and old fencing to build a fire. It took all of three minutes to get the fire up to a height of ten feet or more. They asked him if he had any last words…he didn’t. He was then thrown into the fire. The flames burned his clothes and seared his flesh – he managed to leap from the fire-pile and jump over a fence. They caught him and tied a rope around his neck and dragged him back onto the burning fire. Walker tried two more times to get out of the bonfire. He tried to get out of the seething furnace of hell. But he was beaten and pulled him back on the burning pile with each try.”

Great-Great-Grandpa continued on with the graphic details. “The sickening smell of burning flesh permeated the air. Folks came from all around to see and take pictures of the burning Black Man. They laughed and drank liquor. Their children had fun too. This all happened on or around Saturday April 12, 1911…we packed and moved to Philadelphia.” The Willice’s are descendants of America’s lucrative Industry of Black Slavery.

“The understanding of the racial question does not ultimately involve understanding by either Black or Indians. It involves the white man himself. He must re-examine his past. He must face the problems he has created within himself and within others. The white man must no longer project his fears and insecurities onto other groups, race, and countries. Before the white man can relate to others he must forego the pleasure of defining them.”

~Vine Deloria Jr. – Samuel L. Katz, Black Indians, a Hidden Heritage~

For the people of the ‘Americas’ the arrival of Columbus was hardly a blessing. On his first day, October 12, 1492, the explorer wrote in his diary – “I took some of the natives by force.” He later found the original inhabitants to be tractable, peaceable, and concluded ‘there is not in the world a better nation.” His response as a European was to say that Indians must be made to work and adopt our ways.

The Columbus whose unique seamanship opened the Americas to European penetration also began the transatlantic slave trade. He started by shipping ten chained ‘Arawak’ men and women to Seville, Spain. In 1498, he wrote enthusiastically to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella about the business possibilities. “From here, in the name of the blessed Trinity, we can send all the slaves that can be sold.”

When he loaded 1100 ‘Taino’ men and women aboard the four Spanish ships, the crowding and the stormy Atlantic crossing took a fearful toll. Only three hundred survived. But Columbus and Spain had decided to continue the profitable slave trade from the Americas. Seville became the slave capital of Spain.

Spanish Priests were the first to denounce the horrors of bondage. In 1511 Dominican Friar Montesino called slavery a mortal sin and said cruelty and tyranny over Indians could not be justified by Christians. A few years later Bishop Las Casas, who witnessed countless Indian massacres by his fellow Spaniards, blamed greed for the horrors.

“They kill them because they want to be rich and have much gold, which is their sole aim.” Las Casas concluded that in the New World Spaniards had become devils and Indians were the only true Christians.

Las Casas led a determined effort to halt Indian bondage. He pointed out that Indians died off by the thousands from slavery and European diseases. Forced labor in Spanish mines in the Americas was so harsh that the average worker died before he was twenty-six.

To meet their need for more laborers, Europeans looked next to Africa. The strongest sons and daughters of Africa were seized in their homes and fields or purchased from local traders. They were packed into cargo ships and shipped across the Atlantic.

See them collected in flocks, and like a herd of swine, they resist; but all in vain. No eye pities, no hand helps.”

The first Africans brought to the New World by European slavers probably arrived in April 1502 aboard the ship that brought the new governor of Hispaniola, Nicholas de Ovando. Soon after they landed, some Africans escaped to the woods and found a new home among the Native Americans. Later that year Governor Ovando sent a request to King Ferdinand that no more Africans be sent to the Americas. His reason was simple – “They fled amongst the Indians and taught them bad customs, and never could be captured.

Why did he feel they could never be retaken? Had the two peoples united as a military force at this early date? Were Native Americans prepared to drive off European slave-hunters? Was an alliance taking shape in the woods between two peoples who opposed the Spanish conquerors?

Governor Ovando described more than a problem of bad, untrustworthy servants. His words are more than a complaint about the difficulties of recapturing fugitives in a tropical rainforest. His words are the first hint of a growing problem for the European masters of the New World, the first notice of a new relationship budding beyond their control.

Africans arrived on these shores with valuable assets for both Europeans and Native Americans. They were used for agriculture labor and working in field gangs, something unfamiliar to most Indians. As experts in tropical agriculture, they had a lot to teach both white and Red people. Africans had a virtual immunity to European diseases such as smallpox, which wiped out Native Americans.

For Europeans seeking a source of labor that could not escape, Africans were ideal because they were three thousand miles from home. They could not flee to loved ones, as Indian slave could. African men and women who fled could always be identified by skin color, and Black became the badge of bondage.

Native Americans soon discovered that Africans had some gifts that made them uniquely valuable. Through their slave experience they qualified as experts on whites – their diplomacy, armaments, motives, strengths, and weaknesses. Escaped slaves came bearing knowledge of their master’s languages, defenses, and plans. Sometimes Africans were able to carry off muskets, machetes, or valuable gunpowder. For these reasons their role could be crucial to Native Americans, their place secure in village life. A common foe, not any special affinity of skin color, became the first link of friendship, the earliest motivation for alliance.

Next the two peoples began to discover they shared some vital views of life. Family was of basic importance to both, with children and the elderly treasured. Religion was a daily part of cultural life, not merely practiced on Sundays. Both Africans and Native Americans found they shared a belief in economic cooperation rather than competition and rivalry. Each people was proud, but neither was weighed down by prejudice. Skill,    friendship, and trust, not skin color of race were important. Since Indians willingly adopted people into their villages, Africans found they were welcome.

In the century following Columbus’s landing, millions of Native Americans died from a combination of European diseases, harsh treatment, and murder. Africans took their places in the mines and fields of the New World. The estimated 80 million Native Americans alive in 1492 became only 10 million left alive a century later. But the 10,000 Africans working in the Americas in 1527 had by the end of the century become 90,000 people.

These figures are even more striking within local areas. In 1519 when the Spaniards arrived, Mexico had a population of 25 million Indians. By the end of the century only a million were still alive. The invader calculated that more profit would be made if laborers were worked to death and replaced. In their plans pain and suffering did not count, and no cruelty was considered excessive.

Out of the shifting labor forces a new population emerged of mixed Africans and Native Americans. By 1650 Mexico alone had and African-Indian population of one hundred thousand. Anew race was being born.

In 1510 King Ferdinand, visions of gold dancing before his eyes, lifted all restrictions on sending Africans to the Americas. He promised to send all that were needed and include “a trustworthy person” to be in charge of each group – an overseer. In this way, slave and masters would “share in the gold they may collect” and slaves would receive “ease if they work well.” This was an idle dream.

The slave population expanded, but was never rewarded with ease for its great toil. European masters continued to drive those in chains as hard as they could. Ease only came when people escaped to the forests and swamps. Increasingly Africans and the remaining enslaved Indians fled their masters and created their own secret colonies beyond European eyes. In time these would pose the most disruptive challenge the European colonial system faced in the Americas.

In the age of Columbus and Las Casas this threat was not clear. Europeans counted their profits and kept importing African as slaves. “One Black can do the work of four Indians.” Here, he believed, was a danger worth the price. His fellow Europeans heartily agreed with him. From then on slavery would expand, brutality would keep it in place, and whites would reap enormous profits.

The city is gearing up for a major visit from the ‘Vatican’ in the fall. The massive fallout of visitors and followers threaten complete and utter gridlock throughout the town. This major event was thought to be trumped by the ‘DNC’ convention that is sure to shut-down the city and create traffic fallout of nightmarish proportions. The catastrophe at the Philadelphia Zoo was no shot in the arm for peaceful and trouble-free contentions. ‘Rocky’ made his mark at the very same spot the ‘Pope’ is making his ascension to the podium for the mass commemoration throughout the commodious accommodations for the passage of blessings; touching all the people.
